theres a few mobs selling them, not sure of what exactly will fit torana, maybe the same as hq? blacksracks sell hq billet hinges for $950, maybe some yank cars will fit too, but they dont seem to be much cheaper. be prepared to fork out at least 700 bucks if you want billet hinges

Just be aware you may need to modify your fan plenum, not a big deal, but just bringing it to your attention. ;-)

Yep. I've got a set made by Blacks Racks here in WA & tried to fit them yesterday, same problem. Bugger it.

There is already a bevel to miss the hinge on the standard fan cowl, maybe you can modify the cowl with a similar type of bevel to clear the billet hinge, I still think it would be worth it in the end. Try googling billet hinges, see what others are doing.

Cheers.

That pic of the hinges on the orange car is my car, and yes they touch the heater box. They are 69 Camaro hinges which i had to trim 2 inches off the length and drill a new top hole. Got them through Jegs for about $600 and I am remaking the bevel on a new heater box to look more standard. By the way with the Camaro hinges the bonnet does not lift as high as holden hinges. Camaros have much longer bonnets.

Thanks for the info about Camaro hinges fitting with some mods. I have been trying to find out if any yankee hinges fit or are similar. A bit more info on where you trimmed them and which hole needed to be redrilled would be great.

So does anyone have clear pics of the different type of billet hinges and what the difference between each type is?

The only real difference I can spot in the 2 pics above are the colour of the gas strut and the recessed bolts on the green one.

Also is there any actual weight saving fitting these billet hinges? has anyone weighed theirs?

The Blacks Racks hinges were based on the Camaro hinge (Fesler Billet from memory) but made locally. Blacks have a choice of powder coated or polished stainless struts.

Blacks hinge weighs 1830g with powder coated strut.

Stock hinge weighs 2422g.

One thing that does concern me is how the hinges will hold up in an accident. Are they strong enough to hold the bonnet in place or will they let go with the chance of the bonnet coming through the windscreen?

You'll have to ask them if they have been crash tested or not.

There is a lot of difference between the two hinges on the profiling. If you look at the the shape of each hinge bar, mine are very thin and have a knife edge to them, with a subtle curve in the shape. I just liked the swept look of them as to the other more chunky billet type (the ring brothers style).

Ah Yeah I can see the difference in the plate that bolts direct to the side of the engine bay.

So $1000 to save approx 1kg. :)

So mainly for the looks in the end

Has anybody used any of the billet hinges available recently (Proflow/Aeroflow)?

I am running the standard blower motor on the passenger side and want to check if any of the hinges clear.
