Can anyone tell me why some A9X cars have Satin Blackout and others have Gloss finish?
I assume there was no standard finish?

I believe the reasoning behind the black bonnet (as with Ambulances of yesteryear) is to reduce glare from the sun reflecting off the bonnet, so it kind'a defeats the purpose if you use gloss black paint...
Not that it stops most people from using gloss anyway, I know I have before (and would again) but I'm more interested in appearance than driving off into the sunset.

The satin is alot harder to keep clean so most use gloss
Satin is correct though

Yeah the satin black went well on the old ambulances.
Until the guys polished the life out of it and made it nice and shiny. LOL

Thanks guys, still not convinced but? I have an A9X with Gloss Bonnett, Flamenco Red and have seen other original Flamenco cars untouched with Gloss?
Also sighted two other original cars with Satin? Maybe it was owners choice at time of purchase? Wayne Quine would know.

They were all Satin. But once polished enough became gloss like.

All satin when left factory one owner i know had it painted gloss before he took delivery only Tuxedo black cars left factory as gloss. Even the grease out of a moth would stain the satin and never able to polish for obvious reasons. Trailer queens {enclosed} exempted i would go gloss and buy a pair of good sunglasses.

I believe it was with Matt black or satin black from the factory
Curious to know; were blackouts added at the factory or at Bill Patterson's?

"During the mid 70s Bill Patterson Holden won a contract with Holden to modify the Torana A9X race cars which were trucked to the Dealership in Ringwood, where wheel arch flares were added and other minor modifications made, before being sent back to Holden in Dandenong for distribution to the Holden race teams.
Are you sure about the race team cars? I know they did the built for dealer ones.
But there seems to be a fair difference in the flare cut outs on the race cars.
Thats just by going what I have seen on here.
Thought the teams may have got a roller and did the other fitments themselves.
May be totally wrong though.
Cheers
Rob

You can never really guarantee 100% authenticity in any article and that one is from Car Sales, lol, however I'm pretty sure, according to this ad:

That would be due to the vast difference in race wheels vs. road wheels.

There shouldn't be. The guards were homologated.

I have a picture of a brand new GMP&A shell and it has the flares fitted.
As for the satin bonnet blackouts, I reckon they were done before the cars went to Pattersons, the same as the unique paint scheme on the L34's. Don't forget that the LX SL/R 5000's got the same paint job as the A9X's.

What about the hatchbacks?
Some controversy on facebook about a coupe with a bonnet blackout that someone claims is a rare factory style, lol

You wouldn't believe just how many "unrestored" cars have 1990's two pack paint on them.

Remember they were masked up by hand by different workers. Probably explains so many differences in factory blackouts. Inside doors, under bonnet etc.

First mistake. Taking notice of anything on Foolbook. Either stay away or believe the opposite of anything stated as fact.
I was actually trying to educate both them and myself, I explained to them how no A9X left the factory with flares for starters.
So many there know very little and it's a Torana group, lol.
