Links to some classic Southern Cross rally pics I stumbled across. For those who were there, or know a bit about it, "the cross" was IT in terms of the heyday of rallying with many big name drivers from all over the world coming out to compete against our best.  Pity there are not many toranas getting around in classic rallying these days.  A bit valuable I guess.

great old pics Ned,  I could almost imagine rallying a LJ,..but a LC?..they rode like a billycart on the roads, let alone in the bush.!

I remember being at one of those Special Stages at Amaroo, where they put them around the MX track ( the jumps in your pics)....most of them landed like bags of shite..pretty sure some follow up work was required after that!

They still won everything back in the day Col  :D

From the bits of video I've seen the HDT ones were not exactly stock though.

Yes I think Dunkerton won the jumping contest, but some years after the toranas.

Hi
Does anyone know the whereabouts of the L34 HDT Torana that Colin Bond rallied in the late 1970s ?
I hope it is still around in original condition and not "bastardised"
What a beast to drive at speed along the narrow forestry rods on the Mid North Coast of NSW AND the noise from it
