A lot of you guys would know the ins and outs of Eyepeeler's race car, but his L34 is even more special. It's an unrestored original gem of a car, with the period droopy exhaust tips being about the only accessories on it.

Oh. So this is what a bog stock standard tree hugging post pollution 308 looks like!

Just kidding Dave. The people who have seen this car know how special it is. Only two or three Valencia A9X hatches built and this one is the very best of them. Same goes for Dave. (a9x868) An absolute gentleman who has introduced me to many Torana owners over the last couple of years.

At the Parkerville Tavern. These guys did a fantastic job with a hundred or so people all fed and watered(!) within an hour.

This is the ex Dave Cliff race car. He was a shearer in the 70's and raced at Wanneroo on the weekends. I had heard stories of this car sitting in a back yard for years, and when I heard that he had died I tried to track it down but to no avail. When his daughter turned up with it on the weekend I couldn't believe my eyes. She and her husband had restored it and got it back on the road. They had fitted electronic exhaust cutouts to it, and when they fired it up with them open every neck in the street was just about broken as all and sundry turned to get a look at the Group C motor they could hear. Anyone who has heard one at a race meet would know the sound, and it was even more impressive on a quiet back street in Parkerville.

Looking at the back bumper, he may have had a tyre delaminate. (Must be the rough roads in WA)

After lunch, a few of us went to Andy Brown's shed to have a look at his collection. I can't thank him enough for letting us in to have a look at what can only be described as an outstanding collection of what are obviously the loves of his life. It wasn't just cars either. Honda CR motocross bikes from the current model going back to the earliest Elsinor. More road race bikes than I'd ever seen in one place. Signed helmets from Supercar, Superbikes, GP and F1, and a signed guitar collection that numbered 60+.

This is the A9X that Trevor Biante used to make the model car. It has travelled 212 kilometers. I hope the A9X fraternity realise how lucky they are to have a new car that they can reference when restoring their own.
One thing that does surprise me is how glossy the satin black is. You can also see this when you look at Leo Pruneau's car as well.

The hatchback was local to my area for many years but ended up in Perth and was also used by Biante for their hatch model.

Another ex racer that was there was Greame Hooley, who raced from the XU1 days right through to VK Commodores. He was sponsered by Scheel, who also sponsored HDT, and through this he has always had close ties to the HDT race team. He brought along a heap of photos for everyone to have a look at.

The Hooley hatch, which is currently being restored over east. Might be at the Musclecar Masters next year.

Another car that I had heard about for years was the Bill Nitschke L34. I knew it had been in a bingle but didn't know if it was still around.

I have my answer now.

SUNDAY....

I didn't meet the guys at the starting point, but I had the route sheet so I headed up to about the halfway point and waited for them to turn up. This run was for 50 years of Torana, rather than the 40th anniversary of the A9X the day before, so we got to see a bigger variety of models.

This is at the Peter Brock memorial. The accident happened back up the road a bit, but as there were always cars parked around that dangerous bend, the council made a car park a bit further down. It just wasn't big enough to hold all of us!!

Back in town, everybody parked up for the show and shine and speeches made by Greame Hooley and Lewis Brock. Once again, a big thanks to the Combined Torana Club of WA for putting this on.

It was great to talk to Lewis Brock and show him my car. Uncanny how he sounds exactly like his brother when he talks.

A HUGE thanks to Laurie for the photos and glad you enjoyed the day. The only problem I found was there was so much to see and do that I never had a chance to chat to half the folks I wanted to.

Yes we are thinking of an event repeat - we are thinking about every 2 years in the years when GM owners day is not on.

However all the club guys and especially Craig probably need a bit of a sit down and rest.

GREAT GREAT weekend!

Cheers guys. I was kicking myself on Saturday for forgetting the cable for the drone though. I think Craig wanted to kick me as well. Anyway, bring on 2019 for the next one.

As far as the Redline goes, parts are on their way (including two new doors) and it should be getting repaired next week.

I think it would be in the same year as the GM day over here if that was the case.

Yeah she has changed a little that is for sure. Still shaking the bugs out. It only was driveable at 9.30pm on the friday night before the cruise!

And even then the wheel alignment was by eye.....and the water pump died. But hey - gives me something to tinker with.

Still cannot upload !@#$% photos!!!
