Hello gurus,

i know this has probably been asked a bunch of times but i cant find anything on the site.

How hard is it to swap 9 inch diff with drums to commodore disc brakes.

Does anything have to be welded or do the axles need to be changed? any info would be great.

Thanks

Need to know what bearing and brake is currently on it???

If its got Holden stuff all round, then it is a simple change the bearing kit from a drum to a disc, only difference is the seal for the disc bearing kit is thicker/deeper to account for the backing plate difference between drum and disc. Also need a hub ring to locate the disc on the axle properly.

Then the next hurdle is connecting the park brake cables, there are places that offer new cables to suit for the conversion, but some on here have had trouble with then not being right.

the bearing ends will also be a factor in what fits.

Phil Purser in O'Connor is probably the best person to speak with, or maybe have a chat to these guys, they seem to have a good handle on 9" conversions - www.altra9.com.au.

Have a look on their website under the technical info tab, there is a PDF of the bearing end dimensions.

cheers, john

ive done a commodore handbrake on a lx hatch before , moving the calipers to the front and got it all working very good. wasnt too hard. but i have never done a drum to disc conversion.
