I find it hard to believe a guy stood at a hand operated machine like that striking single digits at a time.
There must be a machine that strikes 99% of the whole tag in one go. A bit like an engine number pneumatic gun, loaded with multiple stamps at once.

As a kid in the early 80s I sold papers at the Theiss Toyota factory in Sydney, they assembled the toyota trucks there. I remember clearly a small room in the middle of the factory floor I'd go into to sell the woman a paper. Her Job was doing the compliance plates. It was basically a big oversized typewriter and fed into it was a roll of aluminium compliance plates, she had a computer printout on the table which obviously had all the plate details on it and she sat there all day on the type writer tapping away making the plates.

i saw that machine in the earlier post and thought using that would take a hell of a long time to churn out plates at the rate holden needed them

And for those with a late model Commodore..................  https://youtu.be/BLnnMpsrjtM

I think we are fighting a losing battle. Maybe it is time for all GTR / XU1 / L34 / A9X owners to band together and create a database of all the cars that are still out there just so others can't be sold at a later date with duplicate numbers.

There are a multitude of commercial machines that would be able to stamp out the blank tags with all the common info.

The material for the tags is easily acquired from any aluminium product manufacturer.

Foil of the required width and thickness can be ordered easily.

A CNC machined die set with the correct font would be no challenge to any competent machinist.

Any half decent tool maker could assemble it all into a set of dies that would atomatically punch the rivet holes, do the letter and line stamping, and trim the tag to size.

With the advent of so much low cost CNC machines, it would not present much of a challenge to anyone who is prepared to do a little homework.

Pretty sure another member posted on here his home built CNC engraver he used to machine some aluminium.

A professional looking reproduction set of tags could be produced easily.

Dont know why some of you seem to think that it is impossible.

Might even set about doing something like it one day to show how easily it can be done.

Something to think about once my injuries heal, and I am off my pain meds.

Cheers

Rob

I reckon I could CAD-design and 3D print a plate in silver plastic that would pass casual inspection!

...all too hard this fake plate stuff...the smart guys just print fake money. Way more useable, and the poor buggers who end up getting done over with it, are never really sure where they got given it?
Bit different with a dodgey car. You would remember who sold it to you.

Still as dodgey as fake plates are, you do have to admire some of the skills.

Yes making fake plates could probably be done .

But when they stamp the LION insignia it opens up a whole new can of worms.

GMH will fiercely defend their intellectual property .

If you think the Police are the worst thing that will happen , just wait until the GMH barristers are through .
