Is there much clearance between the heater casing and the block?

I would take the heater box back out & install the engine first. Especially seems how hard it is to find a good heater box.

Argument against removing the heater box is that every time you remove and refit something like that there is a chance you will damage it.

Get yourself a sensible helper, protect a few things and you should be able to slip that motor in no problem.

Pulling a short motor out or putting one in with the heater box in place is a piece of piss. If you hit the heater box you need a good slap around the head with a wet trout for being careless. :)

As Rexy said, get yourself a sensible helper.

Thanks for the input guys! Yeah I'd rather not pull all the heater shit out , I'll just take it slow and steady .

I put complete motor carby and exhaust with Supra box in LJ couple weeks ago. Didn't hit the heater. Painful job by myself but done now. Short motor as above, piece of ....

Long motor if it has a head on it! Short is essentially without the head.

Hi,
Yep, rocker cover off to help clear that lip at the back.
Never touched a heater box.
I find those engine levellers are good, but mean the bonnet needs to come off for the height.
All the above assumes factory sump. Once a boxed race sump is in play...its just a different ball game and pig of a thing.

It makes life a lot easier with it off...Especially with a big sump fitted.
