Hi guys,

Hit the gas the other day and the whole seat laid back on me - was bloody scary as foot hit the gas and let's just say I was very lucky and needed some new underwear.

After playing with the adjuster knob on the side it looks like it has stripped out inside (I think) as I can move the seat backwards when lots of pressure is applied. I removed the bracket on the outside of it (driver side and outside one, haven't done the other side of the chair yet) and took it apart and the metal L frame inside looks ok but gearing on it has a tiny bit of wear. Would that do it?

Any ideas on how to fix? I was going to get some new L frames but can't find any, can get 2nd hand but pics I've seen look similar. Any advice would be highly appreciated

Thanks

You could drill a couple of holes in the hinges and pin the hinges with bolts at your prefered angle. I would do both hinges not just the one with the adjuster.

I would be tempted to replace the hinges with a solid plate. If you are hit from behind and the seat collapses and you either end up in the back seat if you are lucky or out the back window if you are not.

Hi Darklord.  I might be completely wrong here but I had a look at my seat hinges, and bear in mind I have hatch seats, and they are not in the car.

It seems to me that the winder side, allows you to adjust the seat recliner but the hinge on the other side, which has a large spring, creating the resistance tension to stop it falling back. Someone will correct me but maybe the spring on the other side has failed or come off. Cheers Ron
