Unfortunate typo in the header..... Made me look though! I have seen an image somewhere though of what you are looking for, will see if I can remember where.

The 173 GTR heater hoses didn't cross over the rocker cover. One of the reasons I prefer that model.

So where do the hoses from the inlet manifold go and heater ? All on the right hand side of the thermostat housing?
As far as I know yes, it's as the 72 LJ set-up to the thermostat housing.

Definitely the tidiest setup but means that when the heater lever is in the cool position there is no flow through the manifold. HD 179X2 also piped this way I reckon, although from the other side of the thermo housing and water pump. I suppose the manifold only needs the flow to warm up quicker in cold conditions, so the heater would be on.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what setting you have the heater lever position in. The water always flows the same, they're no taps to divert water flow. Only flaps to divert air.
Hopefully someone can confirm if I'm talking shite.

Correct Marty, there are no taps to open or close the water flow through the heater core on an LC/LJ. Every time the engine heats up the heater core heats up.I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what setting you have the heater lever position in. Yes, the above is true.
Back in the day when we all had LC/LJs as daily drivers, a leaking interior Heater Assembly was not influenced by where the
heater controls were set. i.e. wet carpet until you fixed it.

Reassuring to know they stuck with this setup.

HD X2 was completely different, firstly there were no hoses connected to the passengers side of the thermostat housing & the heater had a valve.
With water heated inlet manifolds it is very important to have good flow thru them all of the time, not just in cold weather.

Thanks GTR-1 thats pic i was after. Any idea's where i can get the engine bay decals that are period correct. I know there's a few mobs out there that do them but are some better than other's.
It was a few years ago when I bought my rocker cover decal, cant remember who from. It was probably just off ebay.
Try these guys https://www.grafixun...hb_lc_lj_ta/lc/
He does good work, have bought an old rego and Delearship decal from him

Might have to review my setup. Will probably end up with the later head and thermo housing and run heater water pump to cylinder head with the manifold plumbed to the bottom thermostat housing outlets. Top housing gets the idiot light sender although most all the later sixes I have looked at run a short hose from water pump to top thermo housing.

Hey mate. In my humble opinion, the 173S (2850S) was a very rare engine, being only in the LC GTR for approx. July to Dec 1971.
Many owners replaced them with a bigger 202 later on from the then HQ range etc.
I did write a couple of articles/research about the 173S for Hunter Valley Torana Club some time back. PM me if you would like them. Please note, that I only frequent the Forum a couple of times weekly.
Cheers Dave
