LS1LX..
I was told these are the codes for the GTS Wheels
(got this from another forumer..)

GMH Codes
350 Grey Metallic 13383
and
350 Silver metallic 13384

I just ended up painting mine silver and Black and they turned out pretty sweet.
I suppose you will only tell if you are parked next to a car with the wheels painted correctly.
Hope this helps

Hi FLY.

I was under the impression that the 350 Grey/350 Silver coloured rims were the U.S. made rims used in 1971/72 GTS models. The Australian made rims from 1973 onwards used the newer colours.

G/Day Dr Terry

To my knowledge the Canadian (M5) built HQ GTS rims which were used up until August 1973 were painted in what i believe to be 2 Pac paint. The Australian version of these colours were the 350 silver/ 350 grey which was an acrylic paint. I believe these colours were used through out the HQ range and included the mighty L34 Torana. With the release of the new HJ came many changes that including the colour change of the GTS rims. Quite often the 350 grey was mistaken for black as it was a very dark shade of grey. With the release of the HJ came a lighter shade of grey and a much brighter silver. A even more radical version of the GTS rims came with the release of the HZ GTS when on some cars the rims were painted the same colour as the cars............

2 Pac paint did,nt hit Australian shores until the early 90,s with Holden reverting from Acrylic to 2 Pac in 1993...........

Having painted a few rims in 350 grey, it doesn't look very dark to me, actually a lot lighter than the colour the previous owner painted my rims. 350 grey is a very dull boring dirty looking colour.

G/Day Mick (RedA9X)
I see the A9X,s have been tossed out of the Australian Muscle Car Masters for 2008 ??? I dont know why they just dont hire the drag strip out and fill it with the road going variants and keep the race track for the racers. Even if this meant a change in dates. Imagine that, all the road going variants in the one place at the one time and next door all the old Group C, Group A and Group Nc cars etc etc etc fighting it out for glory. What a weekend that would be..........

As a Holden & Torana enthuisast i much prefere the Toranafest held in Newcastle in September these days. I,ve heard on the grapevine that the A9X Torana Nationals are going to be held at Toranafeast this year ? I hope you guys dont cause to much TROUBLE.

Would,nt it be nice to see a hugh turnout of the XU-1 guys as well this year or for that matter all Torana enthuisasts...........

Opps... Forgot this thread was about wheel silvers.......

Basically the 350 Grey/350 Silver was used throughout the HQ range and included the L34 Torana. (Short tail centre caps)
The Charcoal Grey/Wheel Silver was used throughout the HJ, HX, HZ range and included the A9X Torana. (Long tail centre caps)

These are the best pics i can come up with so far for Charcoal Grey/Wheel Silver

Posted Image

The rim on the right is a HJ rim dated 1-11-1974. As far as paint goes its still a virgin (ie factory original paint) not in bad nick still for a 34 year old paint job.
The rim on the left is also a HJ rim that im restoring for a mates HJ Sandman Panelvan. As of yet i have,nt masked it up and applied the silver. (To lazy).

This is the best i can come up with for the silver (Wheel Silver 17216)

Did you know there were 4 styles of GTS wheel nuts used throughout the HQ to HZ range ?????

Brian (slr5640) that colour match on your L34 Torana rim looks allmost perfect to me.
Wheel Silver 17216
Wheel Charcoal 17473
For your A9X rims, OK

PS: Originally the rims were painted black (NO UNDERCOAT) and (NO TOP COAT CLEAR).........

Just having a bit of a flick through some books.
Grey 350 Metallic and Silver 350 Metallic are both specifically refered to as GTS rims. The earlist reference I can find to them is 1971, so thats when they were introduced.
In 74 3 new wheel colours were introduced, however they are not specifically refered to as GTS colours. These 3 colours would be the most likely colours however if there was a change in GTS rim colours at any stage. The colours are Silver Grey Metallic 15870 , Wheel silver Metallic 17216 and Silver Flash metallic 11364. One of these silvers however would more than likely be the standard silver applied to any standard steel rim on the HJ range at the time. There is also a reference for the gold used on the LE Monaro rims.

The comparison

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
350 Grey Mettalic 13383
350 Silver Mettalic 13384
Used on the HQ range including the L34 Torana

Posted ImagePosted Image

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Charcoal Mettalic 17473
Wheel Silver Mettalic 17216
Used on the HJ, HX, HZ range including the A9X Torana

Dont worry Mick (REDA9X) if this information is proven wrong ill be the first to addmit it.
Are you mad at me for saying the A9X,s got tossed out of the Australian Muscle Car Masters (I did try and warn you)

Hi FLY.

I'm not 100% sure on the changeover date from the Canadian to the Aussie rims, but I was under the impression it was around late 72/early 73. Maybe Warren Turnbull would know.

I'm sure it's well before the end of the HQ series & before the L34 release.

Are you saying that the early Aussie rims use the early colours?

2-Pack paint has been in Australia since the early 70s, I remember Dulux had stuff called Acran back then. But the Holden factory didn't use 2-Pack until April 1994.

Dr Terry.
