Procomp/ SSS alloy cylinder heads

I also found a couple of other reports from users in the US. These are quoted below.
Draw your own conclusions.........
http://www.boatstore...om/procomp.html
"I checked 'em out, big and small block.
Big block heads I looked over are thin, lightweight castings with inferior valve seats (thin) and poor core shift on the castings. Smallblocks would have taken hours just to clear the casting slag in the ports, hands-down the worst castings I've ever seen.
Junk, just like the boatstore said."
"A friend of mine has a 392" sbf in a Ranger that had World iron heads on it. They "stepped up" to the Pro Comp heads and lost 1/2 second...They put the World heads back on and got their lost ET back."
"A good friend of mine bought a set of the pro-comp heads and bolted them on his blown 383.
The 383 had a 4340 assembly,SRP blower pistons,custom ground mech. roller blower cam,the CNC Pro-comp heads with a 215 cc port volume,2.0/1.6 valves,
pair of flowed 750 dp's on top of a 8-71 from the Blower Shop.
This engine was a max. effort for 92 pump gas.
Pull after pull with the Pro comp heads the best he could do was 588 hp.
He sold the heads and I told him to try a set of the 220 AFR heads.
He bolts them on and goes back to the dyno.
His first pull was 633 hp with no tuning.
He then say's the timing was only at 27* total and his A/F ratio was way fat.
He calls me back after he drops 3 jet sizes out of the front and 4 jet sizes out of the back of both carbs and then takes his timing to 33* total he also advanced the cam 4 degree's, it now went 662 hp."

JMHO.
I am looking forward to seeing the next instalment of this story. It seems strange that despite the size of the cam used the engine is peaking HP wise at 6000rpm. It should be peaking at 6750rpm or thereabouts with that amount of duration. This would tend to indicate an airflow restriction somewhere between the carby and the valve ........

well lets just say i walked out with nothing ...he couldnt explain how exactly they were going to work
Poor design...aparantly bolt on adjustable ..no machine work..however the studs had nothing to tighten them up..i asked how you tigthen the studs..well you just screw the stud in by hand
yeah right..screw them by hand alright
gift of the gab...it will only get them so far...

It's just a promotion, that SSS mob would spend more than that engine is worth each month on their 2 page spread ads. This way it looks like SM actually endorse the engine. It's just a more effective way of advertising for those guys. Almost as good as their catchline "beware of cheap imitations".

just keep taking it back..everytime it blows up...take it back
i would mind winning the engine..i would get a sticker made... SSS build this motor on the back window so everybody would no...
then i would write in every month to SM telling them about the broken parts..or misfortunes
also would have it dynoed...
actualy i would write to every magazine
i think they wouldnt like me

I was at my mates workshop when they had it on the dyno the 1st time.
What horsepower are they saying it made?
I know they ran it again later with a differrent cam
and I cant remember the hp figures now ( it was a few months back)
I thought it was reasonable power.
Neds (Hercules Engines) dyno is very accurate and he dosnt fudge any figures.

Those new taiwan tailgates ain't much chop either.
Enough bog and a shiny coat of paint and mag wheels make any ride look good.

Sorry it took me a while to get off my ass. They reckon it makes 456.7hp and 439.3lb-ft torque. They say its stroked but they don't say to what capacity. If it's a 355 thats a damn good figure if the heads are as poor as people say. It's interesting that they chose not to use one of their own carbies on it (they went with a demon).

I remember the 1st time it was on the dyno it made just over 400hp,
with a very small cam, they took it away and changed the combination.
I wasnt there when they brought it back but I was told it made a lot more
HP that time. (cannot remember how much HP)
Ned just dynoed the engine for them, he didnt put it together.
I think it was a 355 cubic inch.

Thats because their own carbies are more usefull as door stop then a carby. It's interesting that they chose not to use one of their own carbies on it (they went with a demon).
They simply don't work.
I have one here. I DID NOT BUY IT
Ill take pictures of the quality on request
Trust me, your better off with a 30 year old 2nd hand holley then one of these Procrap carbies.

if it makes the numbers then it makes the numbers...however that doesnt mean it will stay together
funny if it got pulled apart and there stroker kit wasnt in it...
anything is possible.

I honestly reckon you could almost get that out of the same engine with stock heads.
Anyway here is some more of what people are saying in the US....
"I bought a set and ended up sending them to ...@.............. and spending a bunch of money getting them corrected. I wouldnt take another set for free. I tried contacting the guy I bought them from and of course no response. Buyer beware!"
"A friend of mine put the 215cc 64cc pro comps on his 80 camaro, it has a 383, small roller, (this is a drag car). with the heads right out of the box, the car made 20 passes, the best pass was 11.01@ 122. He swapped out a set of out of the box Dart pro 1's 64 cc, 215's the car right off the trailer went 10.61@127 by the end of the day 5 passes later it went 10.52@128. with a best to date of 10.42@128"
To be fair there have been 1 or 2 favourable responses too.
