Hey Guys,

I am tossing up whether i should upgrade the front springs in my Torana, i am thinking about going something thats a bit firmer and will give me a better ride and handling...

In the Kingsprings Catalouge, there are two types of springs to choose from... Of course i am after lower springs as well (I'm young and want a cool low ride! HAHA)

There are

TORANA LH-UC V8 - KHFL-14

TORANA SLR 5000 & A9X - KHFL-15

Anyone know what the ride height differences are like with these springs?

LXCHEV, Pretty sure you have said you have the A9X springs in your car, do you have the Standard, or Low's? Anyone else run either of these set-up's? With Flares and 15" wheels? I want to get a rough idea of height compared to my car.

Cheers,

Matt

Maybe you better phone them, tell them what stubs etc you have and what centre to wheel to top of wheel arch measurement you require, the difference in springs I would assume is to compensate for the difference in stubb height.

I am interested in other people's findings also.

I would be at this stage if I was not pulling out the engine & gbox again.

So for now I am just sitting on the fence listening.

That's how I understand it, different height springs

Hmmm, the Stub axle difference sounds right. Would be great to see a proper comparison.

This was my car with

225/50/15 Tyres and KHFL-14

I am hoping that the A9X lowered ones are lower than these ones 15-20mm would be spot on for me.

The ones i have in now are modified and too soft for my liking.

But I'd like to be around this (current) ride height.

theese are pretty much the 3 sizes u are looking at.i just remeasured them exept the yellows.they are in my car
red spring=pedders standard 330mm long

yellow spring=king spring khfl-14(2 inches lower than standard.pretty sure it 280mm long)

blue spring=lovels 255mm long (this was in my hatch when i first got it.running 14/50/245 bf godriches.the wheel was similar that last photo, nice and low.u could hardly get a jack under it)

http://www.gmh-toran...;hl=A9X Springs

Just found this thread (Yep, i had posted in it before)

Adds a bit more to the topic as well.

I wonder if the Low A9X springs, will sit similar to a Standard A9X spring with a Chev motor in the engine bay?

BTW, I am running HZ Stubs, A9X Steering Arms, HZ Calipers... Currently atm i have the same problem as BrettLH in that thread i posted... I can't get full lock because the car is too low (I have to fix this, its not good haha)

Since i lowered my car, I struggle to do a U-Turn over 3 lanes! HAHA!

I can't re-create it when I jack the car up to see what hits... So all i know is that since lowering the car, i can't turn properly anymore... Occasionally, when I am trying to get full lock and i go over a bump (Speed hump or driveway or something), it will let me go full lock, but this happens on a rare occasion...

No point comparing free length, for ride height comparison you need to compare installed height and spring rate.

I think you will find that comparsions between springs sitting out of the car are no good as the stiffeness of the springs means that a tall looking spring once fitted to the car could compress more then then a short stiff spring. So the only real way of knowing is asking the manufacturers or fitting them to your car and letting them settle for a week or two, car must be complete too

best of luck

I dont know about front but rear a9x were stiffer rasied hieght to allow for the added weight of the drop tank

I ran standard height lowells all round with the front dropped two inchs from using HQ stubs alxes

to certain extent u can compare.there not custom springs, there off the shelf king springs, same rate, same car practically.the rolling diameter maybee different.and i think we both have the hz stubs.

MRLXSS,when u say A9X steering arms, what r they ?.i have harrop steering arms,uc lower controll arms, with the stop.my tierod end doesnt hit the steering stop.my steering rack

arms are level with the ground.are yours ?.and i have the uc steering rack,do u have a uc or lx steering rack ?

i havent driven mine on the road yet, maybee i might experience the same ?

i have done the grinder thing in the past.

correct me if im wrong, count the coils in the 3 springs above.they have the same amount of coils, each.just at a closer rate.if u cut a longer spring short, and get less coils.would it

work aswell,as the off the shelf lowered one with more coils ?

Im about to cut my kings as there isnt many options to go lower... only another 20mm-30mm. im guessing it will be stiffer after cutting therfore better ;) depending what your car is for.

DODGY!!!
No, the springs won't be stiffer, they will still have the same rate... Unless you sut them so much that you're sitting on the bump stops.
Cutting springs is not recommended... by anyone who knows anything, anyway.

Matt, yeah I now run the King Springs standard A9X spec springs with HQ stub axles.... regarding this photo you posted earlier:

Posted Image

That shows Pedders springs compared to my stocko springs. These Pedders were replaced for the King Springs... which had more coils, and were slightly taller from memory. I do have a photo of them sitting side by side, but it's not on my PC, it's in an old photo album at home.

Hey mate,

Been there, tried that! Gets it looking awesome, but can't say much for handling... Its a softer ride and floats around a bit...

Yeah, I am running Harrop A9X Arms, and LX (Pre-RTS) upper and lower control arms and an LX Steering rack... That could be half my problems right there. I am currently on the look out for a UC front end to put into my car thought (anyone? Will take the whole UC of your hands if you want)

I'll have to pop my head under and see the angle of the arms... I can't remember off the top of my head... Might also get some pics

My springs i have in atm, have been 'modified' to make the car sit lower... lol.

I got a reply from Kings.

Matt,

KHFL-14 and KHFL-15 will sit the car at the same height. Difference is the KHFL-15's are stronger on spring rate.

You can use a KHFL-44 which will lower by approx 15-20mm but is the same spring rate.

Regards ,

Kris Tarrant
