Changing LX outrigger bushes

As above I am looking to change the outrigger bushes in the front crossmember while it is out of the car.
Does this require anything special and how do you best attempt this?

A ratchet strap comes in very handy when putting the K frame back in together with a crow bar.

I have removed the old rubber bushes with a home made puller without incident. They were installed with the larger end between crossmember and chassis.
After much contemplation of the original design intent I cannot see the logic in installing the new ones the same way.
Having the raised dimples against a flat mounting surface rather than interlocking with the divots on the engine side can only increase instability in this articulation. Having the bush sandwiched such that there are relatively larger contact surfaces at each end will increase stability and torsional resistance.

Am I right or wrong? Doesn't matter to me, the logic is clear and I guess I will bear the consequences of my own actions!
Hard to prove this one way or the other methinks.

Installation of the new bushes was uneventfully easy. The five minutes I spent making up a puller was well worth it. Made from shed crap as per pics below. Yes that is a piston out of an LX caliper. Good thing I am a hoarder. Ideally a piece of steel tube the same diameter but a couple of centimetres longer would be preferred for the removal phase. Didn't matter for the installation phase.

Well started reassembly. The outriggers slid into place with minor manoeuvres. Another suggestion that this is indeed the correct way to install these rubbers?

I know i am digging up an old thread here, but i am having issues with fitting my outrigger bushes supplied in the "hamburger with the lot" kit from Kingswood Country.

 

The issue i am having is that out of the box of bolts i have recieved back from my mechanic who re fitted the k-frame there is only 1 bolt left (not 2) that seem to be the correct bolt to fit the Outrigger bush.

This 7/16 UNC bolt will fit through the standard outrigger bush sleeve but will only fit half way down the thread on the sleeve provided by Kingswood Country.  (see picture) I have purchased a pair of new 7/16 UNC bolts with washers to replace the (missing) bolt and they are slightly thicker in diamiter even and will also not fit. So i am not sure if i should just buy two narrower bolts or do i have the incorrect bush? emails back in forth with Kingswood Country have resulted in either a refund for the bushes or suggested buying smaller bolts. Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.

You can get either the LH/LX/UC front end mtg kit FEK9 http://www.rarespare...px?product=FEK9

or the LC LJ mtg kit FEK8 http://www.rarespare...px?product=FEK8

Unfortunately you can't buy the two outrigger rubber bushes separately (same bush suits HB/LC/LJ/TA/LH/LX & UC Torana & Sunbird), so if you are going to basically throw the other bushes away then the LC/LJ kit is the cheapest way to go.

so are you guys saying that it is the bush that is the issue? I might head down to rares and see if their bush fits.

Yea, that is the issue! i'll take the new 17/16UNC bolts i purchased down to rares and see if it fits.

how about a superpro bush? Or is it not reccomended to use Nolathane. Oh actually works out to be similar cost.

The Kingo Country Hamburger Kit that I bought, I went and bought a LC/LJ kit as well so that I could use the rubber outrigger bushes. The Kingo Country one came with urethane ones I think. Just do that so all your problems go away.

S pack - Ended up buying the Rare Spares LJ/LC mounting kit FEK8 and used the Outrigger Bush. Had no issues fitting, bit of grease did help getting them into the arms and the HD ratchet strap along with the greased up paint scraper's worked a treat!

 

So now the arms are in, the top 4 rubber bushes are mis alligned by about 3mm, i am wondering if this is an issue that they are not seated correctly? I do not have the engine installed and am wondering if there is a way to get it to allign. There is not a lot of play to get movement to line it all up, I guess i could try get some leverage using large leaver bars? should i be concerned or will it line up with the weight of the engine on final assembly?

I've never had the pleasure of installing an LH/LX/UC front suspension Xmember but I suspect you will need to install and align the four chassis to xmember mounting bolts and insulators, then align and bolt up the outrigger bushes.

Then tighten the whole shebang up to spec.

 

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will correct me if I'm wrong.
