This makes me really excited to see more. Those brake calipers are MASSIVE

Massive is all in the eye of the beholder... :D

(Says the guy running pretty big Brembo's that is, haha)

Marcus can I be cheeky and ask for a couple of pictures of your upper coilover mounts for the rear please?

Sorry it took me this long to get the photo up... The family and I have had a dose of gastro... Heck of a weight loss strategy...

Anyways... In between life and other stuff, I got stuck into the brake lines and managed to get the majority of it all knocked together. One thing that is outstanding is the hydraulic handbrake.... Not to mention a bracket to mount it.

I've had this thing laying around for a while. It's got China Spec written all over it, but there is something about it that is appealing... I think it were anodised a different colour maybe I'd be more convince to use it.
b385d3b65e87cb2c142ecbcbb6f6c47d.jpg
It's actually a vertical style but as you can see I repositioned the handle to the horizontal position.

I was up at Go Gear the other day and had the wallet out. I picked this one up for the sake of non-China Spec credibility.
b3e0cfe78d7e70a2b9148ec530fc8dd6.jpg

Not sure... What do you guys recon???

Maybe if I machine the China one up and anodised it grey, counter sunk the holes and blah, blah I could de-China it a bit...

Nice, simple idea yet affective on the mounts.

Yeah the obp handbrake looks a little more racy less ebay ricey.

Marcus, thanks for sharing that. Was exactly what I had in mind but just wanted to see how you were mounting it.

Don't blame you on the second choice on the handbrake lever, function>form.

I think you could just as easily argue function + form in this instance. Shiny does not mean good looking. :P

No probs. I don't spend much time on the forum... Yeah, I know... I prolly should have a bit more of a read of things going on... Be a bigger part of the community n all. So excuse this question if it seems naive, but have you got a track car in the build as well?

So, it seems reading the CAMS Manual before building stuff is a good idea... Go figure!!!

Fitting fuel cell foam is not an option and it seems that in category 3D and others there is also a compulsory requirement a few other things for fuel cells...

Anyways, that means cutting a few holes in my tank to allow for the foam to be installed and in the future be changed out...

This is what I came up with... Means I can still run a Group C style drop tank and keep the CoG down nice and low.

Just need to find some appropriate gasket material and pick up some countersink hex caps and I'll call it job done.

Stooopid CAMS Manual...

No build thread from me atm, you've been contributing far more than I so don't go beating yourself up too much, haha. I built and ran a Hatchback in targa and some club level stuff, but now I'm building something that won't require as much on-going maintenance so I'm going the Pro-touring route. I'm not building to any class, although I will have Brad Stacey build the cage to CAMS specs. I'm going to be running a true coilover setup front and rear just like yourself, so I have a better selection of shocks and springs. I'll be going with either MCA or Penske shocks, most likely MCA. Once I have some noteworthy progress I'll put a thread up, much like you have.

Pro touring... Very cool. Have you been in contact with the guys at Apocolaps?

How much have you done on your car so far? Throw up a pic man!!

Yeah I'm entered in the next Apocalaps event, I'm running a group Nc Monaro that I have. As for the Hatch, I haven't even started it. I've been collecting parts for a couple of years, and have put the motor and box in just so they aren't taking up excess space in the shed.

Sorry for the pic, it's the only one I could find.

Very cool mate.
Did you happen to run your Monaro at the Apocolaps event up at the RAC Driving Centre early this year. I was up there for a look see. By Nc, you mean National Cup yeah? What year is the trustee Monaro?

No, first Apocalaps for me so must have been one of the others. Group Nc historic is the class and she is a 1971 HG.

Great engine. I have one in my GTS, it will go very well in a light torrie.

Who are you using for your engineering or is it not going to be road registered ?

Managed to get a few hours in the shed today.

Knocked together a Trans tunnel cover.

Sheet cut out...

Form up the basic shape...1f22cf9f49e7f73200f93a4c96108c1a.jpg

Then a bit of tweaking to get the shape to match up on the tunnel...

Final fit up looks good before cutting and welding...2ec661282c9695e283ddba80b51a20ac.jpg

It needs a little more work but so far so good. This is as far as I got before I had to call it a day...

Gee... it’s been a while since I posted anything... mainly because life has got busy!!!

Managed to get a full weekend in the shed. First time in a long time.

Got most of the drivers side headers done...e03f2822c78d99f9a6d2613881ca9afa.jpg
181211fb7de26cba9175278405ca3e5f.jpg

Just got to tack the header flange on the remove them to weld them on completely then they’re done... short of ceramic coating...

One thing with the headers, slip fit collectors are terrible for the O2 sensor, I had a lot of trouble with mine reading wrong because of the tinniest air leak, ended up making new pipes all welded this time.

Interesting man... never thought about that as being an issue... hmm... I'll have a think about it... worst case, I'll weld on a collector.

Cheers!

Just do it, google it and see how many people have had the same issue, not worth the risk.

three cents

make sure that you put a hold down point on the engine mount to block on torque side - simple chain will work well - stops the engine mount taking all the pain and tearing up or braking.

check the clearance on that header pipe for torque up and down, rubbing on the top arm.

on the track they are great cars to throw around , did the front end you have under there fix the bump steer issues at all - sorry if this was covered in the thread earlier.

great to see this being built

Sorry for the delayed reply guys. I’m flexing out in Thailand at the mo.

Agent 34. I’ll check all the clearances on the k-frame and arms before final welding. It was close all over. Primaries are 1 7/8” and not the tightest mandrel bends going, so there was some compromise here and there, but with fixed engine mounts it should eliminate most of not all clearance issues.
I’ll be adding in some sort of strap or chain to the torque side as you suggested. On the list.

Bumpsteer... I’ve got some work to do in that area. The whole geometry is stock LX non RTS, so as is id say it would steer like a dingy. I’ve mostly jigged a stock UC frame to get started on the process of geometry and have got it in CAD. Also done something similar on the McD frame. I’ve got a few things in mind based on some geometry of the Detroit Speed frame I’ve got in my Camaro... all just takes time.
Cheers!

One thing that I did get started on the other day was gutting the steering column for just the collapsible shaft.

Just mocked up a few things...

Machines up a spherical bearing mount for the upper. Need to do the same for the lower with some sort of a heat shield.
