The mirror glass is just two way taped to the pivot which can be cut off with a long knife.

Then the pivot base will come out with heat gun, knife and patience to get to the base nut.

Thanks for the tips, I solved the problem and purchased new mirrors from Rare Spares. The pivots hex bolts were seized and when I eventually go them to move the threads come with it, so no more stuffing around with them.

I drilled and slotted two new holes in the front bumper bar brackets to suit the HZ brackets/WB chassis and fitted up the bar. The alignment of the bar is great. Thank Christ every thing is lining up ok, its always an unknown when you buy a car disassembled in hundreds of parts and some of those parts have been sourced from different cars.

Cut out the lower apron holes and fitted the font spoiler. Also fitted better than expected. Cleaned up and painted the grill. I think I will need to repaint the front badge, Rory's background looks a bit to bright, I think the original colour is a much darker red. Anyway had a productive day.

Got around to stripping the roof last week and treating the roof with deoxydine three times, scotch brite with deoxydine and retreated again so I am confident it aint coming back. The gutters and roof under the old primer were perfect so happy about that. I give it three coats of epoxy prime, rubbed back the underside of the bonnet, roof and tail gate, spot primed bonnet. I have to be care full with temperature and humidity spraying in the shed with no spray booth, just have to make good with what I have. Anyway the weather was kind today and got the roof, tail gate and bonnet in Hi-fill. It seam every time I double check the body I find some tiny little defect that nobody would ever pick but it gets the better of me and I just have to correct it, peace of mind or OCD I'm not sure. At least its all good progress.

Good work mate. Well done. There is nothing wrong with being particular when doing things. All it does is make a better result and the things that you notice will not be nagging you. It also helps to maintain the balance of the community with others that go down the path of "that will do". The OCD label is spelt CDO as it has to be in alphabetical order which you would know.
It's also healthy to take great pride in what you do. I must admit I'm a little excessive in doing things as well.

It sounds and looks like you're making good progress with the van and It will be great when you've built it.

Yeh that makes two of us Gene. Just waiting for my son to come around and give me a hand to put the bonnet one. Although I have managed to put bonnets on myself its just not worth the risk scratching the fresh paint. I reckon I'm in for a long wait.

It's probably a bit of both. A bit of a Zen thing and come craziness as well.

The Mrs has been hounding me since I first brought the van home to get rid of the tan interior. I personally didn't mind it for a change, but it really bothered her. The rest of the family and a couple of mates got in on the act so decided to go with black. To late to change my mind now. There are far more parts to colour change than I first realised but all done. Repainted the steering wheel and column. Hope the Mrs is a happy little vegemite now.

Gene if your referring to the brand its VHT vinyl satin black. VHT was the only vinyl paint I could find in satin black. I washed all the surfaces to be painted with wax & grease remover first, give them a good rub with a Scotch Brite pad, then give them another hit with wax & grease remover. Let the parts sit to flash of for 15 minutes then hit them with the paint. The parts look much better than in the photos. You would not pick them as been painted and the only way you can get the paint off is lots of rubbing with thinners. The paint has an excellent bond and very flexible, can even be used on cloth trim. The hard plastics have a slightly more gloss level than the softer parts, dash crash pad, sun visors and inner door handles. Parts look O.E manufactured, very happy with the result.     

My son finally turned up on the weekend and we got a chance to toss the bonnet on. Wasn't happy with the fit so we has to do a bit of tweaking. I spent two days getting the bonnet perfectly straight, but the bonnet side edges where it meets the top of the guards were a bit high in the centre, both sides. 

My son is a tradesman panel beater and decided to push down with both hands complaining that the old Holden's were solid and took a lot of pressure to get the bonnet to move compared to the stuff he has to work on day to day. The bonnet gaps eventually come up excellent, but the downside is he put ripples in the bonnet on both sides. I spent all day yesterday getting it straight again.

Sometimes it feels like one step forward and two backwards. My bad I should have trial fitted the bonnet before High filling it. Anyway it's done now and one step closer. Defently getting plenty of practice and re honing my body repair skills, not that I was any wizard at it in the first place. I takes me five times longer than my son but I still enjoy the satisfaction knowing that its done right.

I got around to doing two jobs that I wasn't looking forward to. The previous panel beater replaced the plenum cowls which had gaps to the doors and guards greater than 12mm and 5mm to high and looked rough. I removed the old primer and redone the job. I still need to do a bit of work on the guard when I strip it back down but a major improvement.

The second job was to rectify the rear wheel arch flange lips. My mate (the previous owner) to roll the top lips to take larger wheels and tyres. The panel beater decided to roll the entire lip and bog them flush with the inner guards. I hated the look and had to do something. I removed the bog for inspection but the lips were just stretched to try and pull them back down.

I had some old front guards that needed a heap of work so I decided to sacrifice them , cut out the rolled lip  and weld them in.

To  my surprise the profile was reasonably close. With a bit of work they lined up excellent and welded in nice and took minimal grinding,. next  epoxy primer and a light coat of bog and Hi-fill.

Finally and hopefully the last of the body repairs are done and dusted. Next job put a few coats of Hi-fill all over before the wether starts geting to cold to paint in the shed.

I managed to put Hi-fill over the last of the repairs this week  looks a bit better now that its all one colour. Sydney's north west weather has gone cold quickly this week, winter is almost here. Bugger I didn't get as far as I would have liked before the cold so that's about it for paint now until the weather warms up again.

I was thinking the same, better than factory

Over the past few weeks I managed to hit it with Hi=fill all over, guide coat and blocked it out. Unfortunatly I rubbed through in a few places but she is nice and straight.  Its a. bit cold now but when the temps are ok I will hit it with a few more coats of Hi=fill and do it all again. As much as I hate sanding for a couple of days Im glad all the body repairs are now done and dusted.

I'm still not sure which colour to paint it and the wife was hinting for a blue. So ducked into my local Bursons auto parts store last week and they mixed me some 50ml sample paint. I scrounged around the shed and found a couple of spare metal plates. Sanded the plates, hit them with etch primer, sanded and sprayed the sample base coat colours. After an hour hit the samples with 5 coats of clear. Samples are straight out of the gun and would come up better with a quick hit with 2,000 paper and a buff, but happy with the results. I took a few photos in the sun, inside and under lights and there was a bit of variation as you would expect.

Ok try and pick the colours, both are Holden factory colours, and which is your favourite.
