Hi all,

Having some painting done on my LH at the moment. Paintings due to start shortly. I went to speak with the painter today as I'm getting them to do an L34 paint scheme on it. Car is already painted just needs the blackouts. He asked how the inside of the doors is done seeing around the windows is getting the blackouts. Anyone know or have any pics of how the inside is done? Not sure whether the A, B and C pillar are painted black on the inside or are they just left the colour of the car? Obviously the exposed part of the B pillar is painted black but how much of it I'm not sure.

Cheers

Dont get too caught up in it, they were all masked free hand and cars varied greatly from one to another depending on who masked it. Overspray from black stripes on insides of pillars was also very common

Cool. I wasn't after a perfect finish to the insides of the doors, just after a rough idea of how it was done.

Sorry Gary, only LH and LX. They were from the engineering department at Holden and I think were used as a guide for the assembly line.

Hi Abi,

Here is page D1 - 38 which shows the blackouts around the windows but it isn't much help for the sills. Looking through the pages that I have D1 - 62 shows where the sill blackouts are for a sedan and they appear to have added notes about the hatchback without much extra detail. The views A and B and section C-C still might be some help. There are some areas on these drawings that refer off to part numbers for extra information. I don't know much about these, it may be a reference to another engineering page or technical drawing. All I have is a big folder of these pages. Hope they help everybody.

Cheers, Grant

You mean this? I have often wondered about that one myself in the past.

I know it’s on here somewhere but I can’t find it... The placement of the SL/R5000 stickers for the front guards of the LH?

I know it is in my computer somewhere too, but I can't find it either. The left hand one was sometimes partially covered by the flare on the L34's.

The Holden supplement has the transfers up high at the swage line.

When I fitted ours a forumer sent me pics of an unrestored L34 which had them lower. I went with that . Personally I think that it looks better .

The clear outside of the transfer doesn't touch the guard / nosecone seam or the flare piping.

I think it all comes down to how many Tooheys new old mate on the production line had the night before . Quality control wasn't such a big deal back then.
