Rear arm rests for LX Hatch

Hi Dudes, Was hoping someone on here may know if you can get the rear arm rests for a LX hatch back from somewhere, ( I know you can get the fronts and the 4 door rears) as I don't have any or if not maybe put up the dimensions & pics to try and make something. Any help advise appreciated

I've searched for any info all seems to point to 2nd hand but very hard to get in reasonable nick.

You could 3D print them?

Not sure about 3D printing don't know much about it. I was more thinking of shaping it from some compressed rubber or foam & then covering it in vinyl, as the rear rests in a hatch back would just be a solid block rather than have the cut outs in it I'm assuming.
Great idea though.

These have always been tough to find. Years ago I ended up having to get my old ones reformed and vinyled at a place in Melbourne. You can prolly still get that done if you can find an old set somewhere.

Besides the foam deteriorating and separating from the both the plastic base and vinyl most are in terrible cond. Many have also flogged out or stretched the plastic base around the two retainer screws holes. 3d printing with the appropriate colour and grain using one of the many vinyl wraps should do the trick.The foams they used back then didn't age well. Today the choices are far better and will out last any one on this forum.

I think you may have just solved a problem for me. Been trying to find the needle in haystack car part but maybe I can get it 3D printed in the correct colour.

Hi guys just for info sake I have contacted the above link from Cameron, they said they will keep me posted, they don't have anything as yet but due to interest will be looking into it. Also contacted a rubber guy in Qld. who sells various repo products ( great guy had a good chat with him) they are also trying to get some made but the process takes about a year. The ones mentioned by Ian on FB are in very good condition & worth the $400. ( would need to be re-trimmed another $100 or so) like finding rocking horse shit., with ashtrays too, but I don't have a lazy $400 due to the re trimming of my car.
Mean time I've put together some home made ones from a kids kick board some balsa wood glued with contact cement didn't have the dimensions or exact shape so they aren't by any means exact replicas, but they will do once trimmed up to hold the rear panels in place till the repos are made in a year or so.
Cost me around $30 and time to construct, hardest thing was lining the screw holes up and sourcing some spacers to stick in the foam.
Will put some pics up if any one is interested.

Are HQ/J/X coupe ones similar?

I would be interested in a pair if they were reasonably priced.

My back seats don't get much use, no one has ever noticed that it doesn't have any.

I was going to make ones out of wood for my hatch & cover them. You can hardly see then any how.

 

That was years ago, but I got some before prices went through the roof.

Rare as hens teeth (much like a hatchback console) and if you can find them they are falling apart and distorted. Many of the ones i have seen also have thin torn or split plastic on the shoulder of the retaining screw holes, so not great candidates to save. To replicate a one off set would be relatively easy but like anything not off the shelf I guarantee its not going to be for the faint hearted. Spoke to my paint guy and he knows someone who is getting a black set made a hatch but no idea of what $$  he paid. Will try to find out more next time I am down his way.

Well my hatch never had them when I bought it, so consider me interested in some black repros as well. Don't care about the ashtrays though.

I know the dude in Qld. made repos of the earlier Monaro HK- HG not sure about later ones.
I bought repos for the front they are a good solid unit but cost around $90. Each. I figured if they make the rears in a year or so they would prob cost similar maybe a bit more. Whoever does get them out 1st will make some $$ for a minute.

Did all of them have ashtrays?
Had my ashtrays removed when I had mine refurbished because the console had one in the back of it.
How many ashtrays do the back seats passengers need!

Well I'm in no hurry but if someone is shopping around/going to make a tidy pair of black repro ones for a reasonable price, please add me to the list of people who will buy. I certainly don't need ashtrays and I'm quite sure they wouldn't make the products cheaper.

I did hear too that it was only the early LX's that had ashtrays in the arm rests and to perfectly honest I think they look better with them, breaks up the colour a bit.

 

Years ago a guy was selling fibreglass reproductions covered in black vynal on ebay, they were exy back then but the finish was of a high standard and they looked the part, unfortunately I haven't seen them in the last couples of years.

 

They would be fairly easy to reproduce without the ashtrays as they are simply a foam block, angled at the front with two screws holes in them, they're a pretty plain  drab looking armrest to be honest.

 

The rear trims definately look better with them then without them thou.

My Feb 76 SS has them as well as one in the back of the console.

Would of been like a bush-fire back there in the day.

I've finally got these home made jobs back from the trimmer,

I could have made fairly close replicas if I had proper pics and dimensions, but these will do till some

repos are made available in a year or so.

They cost around $30 in materials & $30 in trimming.

Holds the new trim cards in place well not too noticeable- But not for the die hard original guys I'm sure.

My car is a bastard made out of bits and pieces over the last 20 years or so anyway- far from original.
