Adjusted my tappets last week , but they started to rattle again , on closer look number six inlet  is hardly moving , after pulling out the lifter the bottom was concave . I run Holden oil filters will that save any metal getting to the bearings ?

Rebuilding a holden 6, particularly to stock is so cheap, why would anyone not bother ? Order a new cam & lifters, pull it down, thoroughly clean it, fit new rings & bearings & you're good for another 200,000. Try rebuilding a modern engine with tty bolts everywhere & you'll love how cheap the old red is. For the price of tty bolts you'd rebuild the red engine almost !

A reco motor sounds good , but I'm trying to work a deal for a JP for it at the moment , and was thinking of slipping a cam into to keep it on the road until the next motor is ready .

Put a new cam & lifters in, change the oil & filter & away you go. If the filter didn't stop the metal from being circulated the filter wasn't working.

Yes Col , it hasn't been at it's best  for a long time , but they just keep on going . I nearly put another lifter in it today it would keep it going ,but when I saw the bottom of the lifter and how little lift it had  I thought it better to spend the time and replace the cam . thanks Warrenm at least with a new cam I won't have to limit it's use because I'm in it everyday .

Try locate chilled iron base lifters as per holden used, some cheap and nasty replacements out there these days, infact I would rather a refaced old set over a new inferior product...

If you don't have an old set of lifters lying around whats the next best in terms of new ones on the market today?
