Hi guys

Lame joke I know, but it’s Jamaican Lime so thought it was a little funny.

Hope to get some help along the way Jamaican this LX sedan. Ok I won’t do it again :)

Got it last week after looking for 3 years.
Replaced an LH I had 15 odd years ago.

So previous owner did body work and painted it in his shed. Looks pretty good but has a few flaws.
Seemed like a good body based on the picks I seen before paint.
Factory SL L32 M20 GU4 Chamois Paint and interior I haven’t worked out yet.
Trim Code 1887-60A
Now 308/333 stroker
Red heads
Performer Holden eldelbrock manifold and Holley
Turbo 400
Bango fine spline open wheeler 3.36:1
Was running
Brakes don’t work
Interior is all junk
No glass installed.
Wiring needs work.
Exhaust has blown out mufflers.
Carby leaks fuel.

Chamois outside, chamois inside! "60A" in an LX SL is:

 

Chamois vinyl seats, door trims, headlining, holy cow handles, sun visors, armrests and windlacing; with

 

Black carpet, black steering wheel, dash pad, dash facia, console and rear parcel shelf.

 

As per the parts manual...

So does that also mean it would of had the wood grain in the dash?
As that’s what I got now. Somewhat broken.

I didn't check the links but there's a thread on parts manuals here:

According to the LX parts manual there were only 3 different instrument panel facias available (for RHD):

 

Part # 9928350 for UG & VB (base model "S") - I assume this would be black? (Note that this part # carried over from LH "S" models, the others did not)

Part # 9941403 for UH & VC (SL) - I assume this would be woodgrain?

Part # 9941634 for VD (SL/R & SS) - I assume this would be grey?

 

P.S. There's no need to quote an entire post if you're replying immediately after it, doing so just takes up unnecessary space.

So this is how it looked when I picked it up a couple weeks ago.
At this point I haven’t done anything with it.
Just got it home in the shed and got all the parts picked up and on the shed floor for sorting.

I do love an unfinished project. Usually not too hard to complete as long as you have at least half a brain and the price is always right.

Well I’m screwed then as I only got a 1/4 brain and probably paid too much ;)
Ye looking forward to finishing off this project.
Been looking for something that was clean and original or had been painted already so when this one came up I jumped on it.
Each time I go to work on something though I Find something else broken/buggered/stripped/missing.
Just hope some of you top blokes have some parts I need and are willing to share.

These picks are where it currently sits in my shed with even more work to do then when I got it.
Been kinda going backwards from where it was at when I got it.

Wiring loom pulled out. Wasn’t happy with the way it was wired and didn’t have firewall grommet installed.
Brake booster and master cylinder removed as brakes won’t bleed up and give booster a lick of paint.
Heater box removed as core appears to be leaking.
Steering column removed for a rebuild as lower bearing is falling out.
Stripped all of the dash out as plastics are broken and it all needs a clean up.


Complete interior is in need of a recover/overhaul
All glass and windows need installing
Carb leaking fuel
Exhaust is stuffed, mufflers have holes in em

Was trying to post up some interior picks but no worky.
Spending more time trying to post picks and research on this forum than working on the car.

Steering column rebuild is first plan of attack.
Been to rare spares and got some new bearings and a few other bits.
Will also give it a paint job and paint some other bits while on a roll.

Personally I’d fix the mechanical issues polish it & put it together (fixing what’s needed on the way) but that’s just me cose I hate paint n panel work 😜 & it looks good from here 😁👍

No doesn’t need paint on the car. It looks pretty good but has a few little flaws that I would like fixed but I’m not in a hurry to get them done.
I meant lick of paint on steering column.
That’s my plan just to fix mechanicals and fit a new or good used interior.
However removing the wiring loom made me start ripping all the dash apart.

I tried to post a wanted add for an interior but couldn’t get it to work.
Dattoman was gunna hook me up with a wanted post but may have forgotten about it or is too busy.

There is also a couple more bits im starting to notice I don’t have.
Small bracket/brace on bottom of steering column.
A couple little metal clips on heater box.
Bonnet cable
There will be more.

Easy way to do the pics.

Load them onto Facebook.

Then save the image from Facebook.

Post that image on the forum.

Quick and easy and works well.

The steering column has the main three-bolt bracket that connects it to the dash? Or is that what's missing? I can check if I have a spare.

Well in not really sure what it is missing.
Bottom of steering column where lower bearing is located.
I got the retaining clip for the bearing but is there another piece that screws or bolts on.
Just to stop the tube spreading open.

I really need a parts book or factory repair manual to see what else I may need.

And the heater box I split open to replace the heater core and one of the lil metal clips broke :(
Sourced some foam for the heater box this week, to recover all the flappy parts inside.

Ah. I don't know if I have either of those pieces. I will let you know if I find them, but I think I do know each part you're referring to, and it isn't what I suggested.

The part I’m missing is called strap in that pick.
Is that one specific to a floor shift version?



I have looked at some other manuals and it shows another bracket with indents for column auto and levers for the manual.

thanks again for posting that picture up mate.
I have acquired an old LX manual since so can peruse through it in the future.

Ok so the previous owner dropped around this arvo with a box of more stuff he found in his shed.
And in that box of goodies is the “strap” that was missing. Yay
Also got the skuff plates and glovebox lid that I was missing.

Almost finished body deadening floor this weekend. Just got a small part of trans tunnel where the shifter bolts down.

Using this thread as a guide to rebuild steering column.

Have bought
Top bearing
Lower Bearing
Ignition switch
Indicator stalk/switch
Firewall grommet.

Got it all apart and cleaned up.
Near Ready to paint and reassemble.
Need to get some JB weld to glue top bearing in.
Then a coat of black all over.
Still need to but a set of locks/ignition barrel as I don’t have a set of keys with the car.
