Ryco Syntec oil filter

Has anyone used a RYCO SYNTEC oil filter?

I’m up for the 1st oil change on my 355 and wondering if anyone has any input or experience in using one of these.
I’m running Penrite HPR30 oil in a hydraulic roller cammed, early headed 355 & I’ll still do oil changes at 5000kms

Have to laugh at the BP Ultimate ads claiming their fuel removes DIRT from your engine. WOW, now RYCO have filters that remove more DIRT from your oil. (at twice the price of their std filters I'll bet)

 

Think I'll have to throw some dirt from the garden into the fuel tank and some into the crankcase to test these products and see if they measure up to their claims.

Arh your wrong they all add different additives to their fuel

The second last line in that first picture of the packaging would worry me ?????

without testing oil before and after I would only be assuming these filter the oil better but my thought was anything that could be better, would be worth the small extra cost?

I am guessing these are a newer product from Ryco as there isn't much feedback online and supercheap only sell these or the normal ryco filter.

 

 

I know what you're saying about the fuels - I was told by a Caltex Rep that there are only 2 brands of fuel available in Australia and here on the Gold Coast every fuel station actually has Caltex fuel no matter if its branded Caltex, BP, Shell, Puma, 7/11 etc etc. I have no idea what additives would be added in at the service station?? but I would guarantee that dirt in tanks would make a difference as I have purchased fuel from various retailers and my car has run like crap til I put some more in.

Just buy a oil filter cutter and have a good look at whats happening inside your motor or borrow and oil cutter from your engine builder. I'd be changing the filter and oil and then cutting the filter to see what's happening inside. 

 

it's not the filter that you should be worried about, it's whats floating around which is the issue. I would just use the standard filter and spend the money on a oil filter cutter long term.

 

 

your engine builder should be a bit interested in what happening inside seeing you may have spent a heap of money with him 

 

 

I'd be sus on anything fancy with oil filters and promising " super fantastic filtration"  after a new motor you should have a bit of engine bebris and sus stuff after breakin, don't run the breakin oil long term and if this is the first change then do this ASAP to get the shit out. All being good it will be in the bottom of your filter. don't freak out when you cut it open there will be shit in there no matter how good he is when preparing the engine.

 

Just drop the filter,change the oil and take the filter  back to the engine builder to cut and look at the stuff in the bottom and get him to give you the all clear. Its his engine

At a guess the new FANCY ryco filter would only one that is rated for extended servicing. If you use a synthetic oil and use extended oil change times with a noemal RYCO filter they recomend a filter change at 5000 km max. This ends up requiaring two filter change for every oil change.

 

Use the corect filter and you should be good for 10 000 km. No need to use a long life filter if you do 5000 km changes. 

 

Personaly I  stoped using ryco a long time ago. I have had 2 Z30 filters with faulty drain back valves with the new fantactic chineese made ryco filters.  Not good for cold starting when it takes 20+ seconds to get oil pressour. FleetGard, Baldwin, Wix, AC delco, K&N but no ryco for me.

Fleetguard, Baldwin, Wix filters here as well. I haven't used Ryco in years either, I cut a few open 30 years ago & found that the filter inside was 3/4 the size of the Fleetguard, Baldwin, Wix filters.

Where does one buy these other types of filters from?

Punch in a number of a competitors filter and the Baldwin/fleet guard/wix/Mann/Donaldson page will give you their alternative p/n.

If you have a truck/tractor/machinery shop local.
Find out what brand they stock and use the online thing to get a number.

Ryco are actually one of the only companies I know that back their product. Even if that means litigation.

They've stood by customers in battles with manufacturers where they've claimed engine damage was a result of non genuine filters (air, oil or fuel) and Ryco have fought and won on behalf of end users. It's a pretty interesting environment.

Lots of the truck style filters (Baldwin, Donaldson etc) don't have proper adbv fitted due to the orientation, so just be mindful there.

I actually worked for Donaldson for a while back in the day filters are interesting business.

Pretty sure the ST filters are for synthetic oil.
