HSV CAMARO

Will give you a first hand opinion after my 1200 kilometre drive home

Have you driven a HSV VF2 Tony? It will be nice to get a comparo of the two cars from an owner.

I can’t believe that GMH or GM didn’t organize this better. The reason mustangs are so common is that GMH have had nothing to offer. How long ago did they announce that they were closing? GM - GMH are so poorly run it is unbelievable. They should have had Camaro ready to go 2 years ago. Also, how do they compete with the Mustang at nearly half the price?

Price point has always been the mainstay of Mustang's business case, and it works. They have built 10 million of them.

Went to local Holden Dealer today to sit in, start her up and go over the this new model. $100K non negotiable dealer reckons. Says only 550 available between here and NZ.

 

Anyway must say it at least sounded very nice!

 

This "non negotiable" attitude is the reason who HSV and Holden dealers have had problems moving the last of the VF series 2 stock. Holding onto unsold stock trying to acheive the maximum price costs money.

Dealers made a lot of noise about the last of the V8's being all presold which was bulls**t. There is still unsold W1's, Gts-r's and Motosports etc out there.

 

Looking at another forum, the majority of interested camaro buyers want the manual and not the auto so they are going to wait. Some are hoping for a factory RHD with a price similar to the mustang but i'm not sure if this is going to happen as the RHD market is so small.

 

I'm interested in the camaro but not in an auto. I will wait and see what happens. Yes I know the camaro is not perfect but it wont be a daily drive.

The first 550 are all auto. The second batch may have manuals ???

Took delivery yesterday, I was the first apparently.
Awesome car sounds amazing & will definitely upset your neighbors . The camaro is what I expected & did except some minor flaws
Which were all addressed in the reviews.
This is a medium size sports car which is suitable for 2 people & small persons in back or child
Blind spots are no bother & seats are very comfortable.
The instruments are easy to navigate around & easy to operate.
HSV have really converted this car with pride which shows in the finished product.
Will keep you posted as I’m about to make my way to Tasmania very shortly.
Suttons city apparently have sold their allocation bar one silver one which looks great if anyone is interested.

Yes agree GMH about lack of planning to the latest muscle car interest - aka Ford Mustang. The Mustang has been so popular it has caught Ford out big time with initial big wait lists to buy one. Seems like GMH just playing a slow catch up.

 

So would I buy one with a spare 100K - hell yeh!!! And what's more, world oil prices are dropping. Ha!

Congratulations Tony, sure it will be a fun drive to Tassie.

One of my mates rented one in the States and was disappointed with it being auto until I pointed out the paddle shifters, loved it after that.

On board the spirit of Tasmania now.
After settling in the groove of the car after the first 300 km , I was more impressed no rattles or strange noises considering the car was fully dismantled & put back together better then it left the factory
Very smooth ride & the fuel consumption was impressive averaging in the 7’s per 100 in touring mode doing mostly the speed limit. I drove 900 km befor I put 65 litres in 70 kilometres befor Melboure . Would have just made it to port Melboure on a full tank.
This car just grows on you the more you drive it.
The only thing that I don’t like are the tyres which you can drive flat if you get a puncture & no spare and can be a bit noisy .
Also gotta love the airconditioning in the seats

Whats the go with the front strut towers, they look to be injection moulded? Plastic? FRP?

I noticed them in a video that's been floating about as a walk through at HSV all about the conversion.

I watched a show a few years ago when GM proposed switching the Camaro to the ATS platform, they were trying to take every last ounce out of the chassis, the metal is very thin and has strengthening ribs everywhere. Funny in the end its only about 100 kgs lighter than the Commodore version.

100 kg is still a fair chunk of weight saving.

Yes it is, but the car is also 1/5th smaller than the last version. The projected weight of the new Commodore light which was cancelled (Abbott government!) was over 150 kgs lighter at the same size.

How is the car going Tony? Being a few weeks into it, have any niggle wormed out, or are you still loving it?

No problems, the only issue were the number plate bracket
Supplied with car is suited for us style plates.
I rang the dealer & was told that’s how it is & to just modify it, simple fix was made of plastic so I just cut to size.
Also no touch paint was included & was told they are no longer available due to import restrictions!
This is my 5th New HSV & every one was supplied with touch up paint & a goodies bag.
Will be registering next Thursday
The Hobart hsv dealership haven’t even any camaros in stock yet due to slow production,so I was told by the sales man , when I take my car there next week for road worthy & the first device I won’t be letting my car out of my site.

Went to GM day at Gawler in SA a couple of weeks ago. There were 4 HSV camaros on desplay. Crawled through, under and around one of the cars with the owners permission. Asked a pile of questions but overall come away not that excited knowing I would have to spend $95,000.

A couple of days ago I was a passenger in a new Mustang. Although I did not like the 10 speed auto (prefer manual) I was impressed with the car plus an on road price of around $71,000.

No room in the back seat does not worry me (camaro the same) as my kids have grown up and gone. 

Now I have to decide.....do I sell the torana and buy a Mustang and enter my next later age crisis ??

Can’t see those slapped together things being collectible any time,assuming they even last anywhere like as long as an old Holden, sorry.

I have had my torana for 15 years and dont use it much at all so it may be time to sell it to someone who might.

The new mustang is not collectable and will only go down in price. It would be used as a second car.

Being a little bit older (62) I will admit I have always had a soft spot for a mach 1 mustang.

 

Anyway.....not jumping off the cliff yet.
