Thanks Rob. I bought a gas/gasless so it can do both.
Haven’t bought the gas yet so just been practicing without it. Pretty ugly so far

Looks like a trip to Bunnings sometime?

You need different wire for gasless don't you, doesn't it have some kind of flux coating?

I know it's basically impossible to weld with normal wire once the gas runs out!

Yeah.

Different wire.

Go to Bunnings and get the bottle.

Some of the gas suppliers are selling bottles too, so there may be some competition now.

For panel work get 0.6mm wire,

For most everything else you will find 0.9mm will be better.

Your first welds with gas will renew your faith in your abilities.

Gasless has its place, but Ive found that its not much good on anything under 3mm.

You seem to need to get more heat into it to get the best out of it.

Just my opinion. Others may find it different.

Thanks for the tips. I’ll get some gas and the 0.6 wire and give it a try.

Got a new boot floor from rare spares but don’t need it all. Hoping to use some bits of that for the rear floor as I can’t find anyone who makes them. The only other bit is the air duct under the dash on the passenger side. The flange is rusty. Anyone know who makes that bit? Or is it a case of do your own?

Appreciate the advice

Moving along ok so far

Lots done over Easter. Stripped out everything I could to get to a bare shell. Seats, wiring, cables, brake lines etc. Everything. Front end out, diff out. Now I can see what is in front of me. Body is pretty good but new boot floor, battery tray and spots here and there.

Only lots of years of work left

Came back ok. I think. Not too bad. Boot floor is no good and a few bits here and there but doable I hope

Pictures to come

A good bit. Note where I had drilled out the battery tray and stuffed my first welding attempt.

Front floor came up really nice

A not so good bit. Boot floor already partly cut off but more to go to get back to the good stuff.

Rear floor needs replacing

Dog legs pretty good

Looks phenomenal! You have to be happy with this outcome. The bad is minor stuff really. You have a very solid shell my390

Good to see things are moving along for you. Looks a far cry better than "fred Flintstone" from a few weeks back!

I dunno. The Fred Flinstone option had a certain appeal. Light on fuel, tough on thongs

Good to see the replacement boot floor fit well and that your happy with it. I’m about to tackle this job next. I’ve been staring at it for a while now haha but seeing yours in has given me some motivation.

Hi Kantong.

Whilst it is looking good now i needed a professional to get it to fit. Needed massaging around the wheel arch.

I didnt like the overlap on the spare wheel well either and got that put right to match the orginal. Not a perfect fit by any means as supplied but it can be made to fit.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes
