Electronic Bonnet Release

Has anyone installed a solenoid to release the bonnet latch on a LX.
If so , what type did you use ?
Is there a kit ?

Could possibly adapt the solenoid off a starter motor.

It may have enough pulling power to do the job.

The catch is under a fair bit of tension, so will require something good to get it moving.

I installed a heavy duty pull solenoid for the boot release on my SLR. It doesn't have any problem popping the boot, I purchased it from Repco as a universal kit.  

I’ve used a vk commodore boot release on the bonnet of a datsun before. Worked ok.

I was reading some earlier threads on this and one potential issue that seemed to be unresolved was how to open the bonnet if the battery is flat.  I don't understand the electrics of it but is something that I would want to satisfy myself with.  Would be ok if you located the battery in the boot.  Just food for thought. Cheers Ron

Couple of ways around a flat battery, mount an anderson plug somewhere discreet and in the event of a flat battery you can connect an outside powersource.
If you use a solenoid with a cable coming out of it and mount it below the bonnet release you can get in through the grill to pull the cable.

A hook and clip type would probably require less torque to pull it open. provided that it isnt adjusted too tightly.

If too tight it would likely bind anyway.

If not tight enough. it would rattle and the bonnet would not be locked down tightly.

The original type keeps the bonnet nice and secure, and shouldnt have any vibrations and rattles from it.

The boot is an entirely different kettle of fish in terms of what it needs to do.
