According to the parts cattledog there were only two different speedos for the whole LH model, VS12406 and VS12417

One had a 6 figure odometer, and the other with a 7 figure odometer, but I'm not sure which is which.

It says all L34's got the 6 figure type, so I assume the 7 figure type came later?

But aside from that, there's no mention of 8VD69 models getting a different speedo to everything else?

I'm sure someone will correct me if the i'm wrong .

I'm of the impression that the Slackpack had a 190 kph speedo & the SL/R has a 200.

In the advertising blurb, it stated that it came with "full sports instrumentation, including tacho, kilo speedo, oil, temperature and fuel gauges". I would reckon that would be the full SL/R dash.

I have just been doing a bit of research into the tacho's on LH Toranas, and no 4 cyl ever had them fitted. (So why the 4 cyl switch on the back?) The sports dash also wasn't available through NASCO as an option on any LH that didn't come with one from factory. As far as I could make out, only the Gpak and SL/R's had them. I can't confirm it, but I am sure all dash's with full instrumentation would have had the 200 kph speedo in lieu of the 160 kph speedo.

I believe that the SL/R got the 200 km/h speedo & the S & SL got the 160 km/h version.

From memory they changed from a 6-digit odo to a 7-digit in early 1975. HJ changed around the same time.

They list part numbers for gauges & their senders for 4-cyls in the parts catalogues.

The L34 will use a 4-cyl sitting for the tacho because of the twin point set-up. It has effectively got 2 separate 4-cyl ignition systems.

The think that the G-Pak should have the 160 km/h speedo.

Firstly that's the way the parts catalogue reads & secondly that's how HJs work. i.e. if you got a sports dash in a non-GTS in HJ it had the lower spec speedo. I think GTS got 220 km/h & the others got 200 km/h.

Pretty sure It's the original dash in my car, it was only a two owner car that had been in a shed for a fair while.

The L34 tacho is unique to that model Dr Terry. There is no switch at all on the rear of the gauge.

I have been chatting to a couple of owners over in Facebookland, and the consensus is that they had the 200 kph speedo.  This is from a two owner car.

attachicon.gifTacho 1.jpg

An original taco has the 4/6/8 "switch" on the circuit board. It is on the track side, not the component side. If the taco has been refurbished then there is no switch, just a trim pot that is good enough to cover the range required for calibration.

Pics show an old circuit board (original) and the new replacement version with just a trim pot. Now change to how it looks from the back of the cluster.

Cheers, Steve.

Steve, I have seen a few from L34s now, and they are all the same. There is no cutout in the plastic housing for the switch lever at all, and the ones I've seen have been in the cars since 1974.

HK had the slots regardless of Monaro. HT and HG didn't.

HK rims were the last made by Holden. HT and LC on were ROH and had different nut taper. Don’t use those rims on the road unless you match the wheel nuts.

HK standard rims are 5”, V8 and later GTS 6”
There were slotted HT/HG rims, fitted only on manual 350 Monaro’s
