Blank tags

$100 cheaper to buy all 3 as a set.

I wouldn't worry too much about those tags. There is so much wrong with them when compared to original tags they will be easily spotted.

How the heck do they do these ???  The old Bali buggers can copy most things but where do these come from ???

With the right skill sets and equipment I'd expect it wouldn't be that hard to make the tooling to produce them here or abroad.

From the same seller, tags and a firewall with  number on it, don't know my HT stuff but do all these numbers look original, firewall looks dodgy

But you and I have both seen fake tags that were very close to the mark Dave. It is going to get harder and harder to do the check before the cheque, because sooner or later, someone is going to knock out the perfect clone. 

I reported him to ebay and Police line.

The intent is there.

Those who know will be able to pick them a mile off.

But when you read some comments from some on Facebook for instance, some keyboard experts have no idea.

Dont care whether people agree with me reporting it or not.

The stamped plates haven't been used for some time. VL Commodore I think. The VN Commodore onwards have engraved plates.

But yes, the stamps ended up somewhere. And I am sure that I have seen dodgy plates that have been stamped with them.

Yes I'm lead to understand the later ID plates are done by computerised machinery, sort of like a dot matrix printer but for aluminium. Probably nothing like a dot matrix printer but you get my drift?

And probably even easier to replicate than the old stamps.

the Adelaide stamping machine. Was upstairs at GMH Adelaide which went missing on the big clean up.. .. Some say its a the Birdwood museum but hasnt beed seen as yet so Ive been told.

I reacon its in someones shed, waiting!!!

My old mate worked there for 30 years and new it was there..

With the technology available freely today, it would not be hard to create a machine that could replicate the old tags without any flaws.

Flat table CNC routers can be had very cheaply on ebay and the likes.

While they primarily say they are designed for nothing harder than aluminium, with different feed rates, perfect copies could be cut into steel plate.

You could then press your own blanks with relative ease.

The same machine could then cut you perfect letter and number stamps for the reverse stamping.

To make life even easier, you could create dies to stamp the most common things such as L31, M21, GU4 etc in one press.

The technology is there. Its just a matter of untilising it slightly differently to the manufacturers recommendations.

Even engine number stamps could be created the same way, then the stamps appropriately heat treated.

Eventually Im sure things like this will pop up. Perhaps they already have.

Some of the blank plates available years ago were the real deal.

Pocketed by employees that had the chance. Especially when the new style of plates came in.

Who would miss a handful of old plates that were no longer going to be used?
