I’ve tracked down information regarding my vehicle and I’m aware that the car was an NSW internal promotion car for Holden. It’s an SS made in Vico MADE 10/76 but not sold / registered till July 1977.

I’m keen to find out which dealer sold it in July 1977.

RMS have no record of the car (not the VIN or plate). I’ve owned the car since 1988.

Any suggestions how to find out?

I already have a Holden historical services report...

Cheers

It may have been tendered out as a used car.

I also meant to add, just because it was a NSW internal car doesn’t mean it was ever registered in NSW. Try the AOMC in Victoria with its original engine number.

Thanks for that yel. I’ve always assumed it went to a dealer after it’s promotion days doing I don’t know how....

When I got the car in 88 it had number plates starting with HZX, from NSW, so I assumed them to be original to the car. It’s about the correct sequence for mid 77 when the car was first sold. So in short probably always a nsw car...

Yes, but it may have been re-registered as a NSW used car after being sold to a dealer through the dealer tender process.

The attached 3 x Public Relations cars were all assigned to NSW, but as you can see they were all VIC rego originally. The bottom one is the Saffron car from post 48 in this thread:

http://www.gmh-toran...-the-70s/page-2

As you can see it has VIC rego plates.

Saffron with Doeskin and Black vinyl?
That'd be different.
Typo I reckon.

It won’t be a typo, these were the cards that went in the cars for the Press. That is also what it looks like in the colour and B&W photos in the magazine.

Sorry to the O.P for the diversion but..
Looks normal 62V Doeskin/Chestnut to me.
63V would be Doeskin/Black if anyone has a better interior pic of SLR in 63V that'd be good.

Hmmm...appreciate the info and the link.

Seems like the only way forward. I’ve contacted AOMC for their email address (didn’t appear to be in their website).

According to my Holden Historical Services report the vehicle was ordered through the Victoria Zone office (manufactured at Elizabeth in Vic) - don’t know if that has any significance as the dealer code is NSW 215 (Holden internal promotion nsw).

As far as I know that is normal for those sort of cars to be ordered through the States zone office, and 215 is one of the codes for cars used internally within GMH. I have lots of early build cars recorded with 214, 215, 216, 217 etc. The brochure vans and sedans for HZ are 214 which is I think Elizabeth (maybe) internal promotion. If you go looking hard enough you may find your car on LX brochures, publications etc.

I doubt very much it was built in Elizabeth though, all LH-LX bar a few early body tryouts plus the odd other car were Dandenong bodies and Dandenong assembly.

Here is the Doeskin/Black trim in that SLR5000 from above. B&W (and upside down!) but you can see the black dash, black console and black carpet, Same deal as 60A in HJ/HX and LX.

The trim code for this car will be 63V, which is Doeskin Sadlon with Dark Doeskin seat and door trim inserts, with black instrument panel, steering wheel, steering column, console, carpet (incl carpet on door trims) + other bits and pieces as std inclusions for the trim code.

Looking at what you get back...

...$90 seems a bit much just to find out the original rego number?

Yes does seem very pricey ...

You are correct, Dandenong it was.

I've done a little searching in some older magazines and the Holden employees magazine (whatever it was called) from back in the day - who knows.

It would certainly be a lot easier if the RMS hadn't lost all records of the vehicle.

NSW electronic records only go back to the early 90's from memory. They were paper before that. There was no record of my yellow GTS327 as it was last regoed in 1975-ish. The yellow GTS came up though as it was regoed in the 90's, got its original engine number out of the RTA under a FOA request.

Had a look on the archive website. Doesn’t show anything with respect to registration for that period. Are you thinking the paper records are at the western Sydney facility?

I thought they were in Grafton. You can do a NSW FOI request, it is free just takes a while. Provide engine and chassis numbers and known rego number.

I made an application to the AOMC. They have found no record of my car.

I’ve emailed the nsw state archives. No response yet...

I’ve had two HJ’s first rego in NSW with H plates. One was HHO, it was a late 1975 and I think the other is HBW it was an early 1975. We also had HQ’s from 1972 with GIG and GPG plates. I think I still have both sets of H plates in the shed somewhere.

My first car was a very late LJ and had GOA015 plates that I assumed were the originals. Loved that car but wrote it off...

My early 76 hatch is HTJ-756.

Both NSW rego.

Cheers,

Liz :)

Unfortunately my HJ Premier was first regoed with B&W personal plates. It is 12/74 but not regoed until 2/75.
