Hi fill primers.

Hello everyone.

With all the hi fill primers on the market i thought i would ask people what their prefrance is and why.

From the cheap shit from super cheap and Autobarn through to the hi end polyesters from paint shops.

Maybe some feed back on what you have used and good and bad stories to the absolute horror ones.

Any info would be a bonus for anyone looking to use these for their builds.

The cheap shit IS SHIT, plain and simple, you can't say i use x brand because of x always. But i like the sikkens & lesonal because of what i know it does, how it performs & lasts. But many people use ppg, protec glasurit & baslac. That is the dearer & cheaper version, of each of those brands. There's also dabeer. You could use any of those, i wouldn't use cheaper than those. & i have used all of them at some stage. It can be a personal preference aswell. I do honestly think however, that the dearer version's of each are better myself. Good luck. Gary.

Make sure that it is from a proper automotive paint shop definitely, personally polyesters are not something that i would use at all, stick with the hi build only. Paint build up thickness, can have bad results in time.

My paint guy gave me PPG over epotec for dulon top coat.

Gary is on the money as usual. We are a Sikkens shop so use Sikkens obviously, which is about as good as it gets.
I have used Baslac in the past and for what it is worth performs fine.

I used a $120 hi fill kit from ebay on some of my panels. Worked fine. Also used debeers and protec on my car. The cheaper one did sand easier not sure if a good or bad thing. UC looks ok painted

Quite often, easy to sand, usually means more shrinkage after it's painted. That's what i would be worried about.

Hi Adam, i have found the lesonal to be really good aswell, for the price it is, obviously the sikkens, is better. But the lesonal still is nice, if you haven't used it. I personally think that the sikkens ep epoxy etch primer is the best product & the colour build plus. Gary.

Your right Gaz, pretty much everything about Sikkens is quite good. The tech support and service they also give us is worth paying extra for.
Glasurit have attempted to convert us, but it won't happen.

I've never touched velspar & i think i had some stuff to do with concept, a long time ago,personally i didn't like it, but that's just me. I would only be using the 1's i had mentioned before, but I'm "not" saying velspar or concept are junk. We all have our preferences and i was in a shop that had glasurit for years & then sikkens for years. I like the way they are to use personally.

Yep no worries. 

A company close by has glasurit as a brand they supply. It's hard sometimes trying to find shops that supply good quality stuff in areas that have low income wage erners as majority of peolpe don't have money to spaend.

I've lived in the same house most of my live and watched the area go to shit and it's only getting worse.

I will ask for sikkens or glasurit hi fill as i only like to use good quality gear. Better to spend extra now than have problems in the future.

I have found a local shop that sells Lesonal 2k hi fill so i will be going with that.

It's not the top of the tree but dam close as can be with what i can find within a reasonalble distance.

Yes found one about 30 minutes away.

I had the car sandblasted and painted in KBS and under 2 hours later had it painted in etch primer. Will still hit it with 80 grit to give hi-fill more biteing power.

Stick with 180 free cut for the high build over the epoxy mate. Gary.

240, would be the finest i would use.

I was going to use 80gt to scuff up the surface to put the hi-build on to give it more to bite into and then hit the hi-build with 240gt then prime and hit with 240gt and final with 500gt before painting solid color or step up to 800 if I use metallic.

Guess I'd be worried about sanding through the etch with 80

I rub my hi build with 320 dry,and solid color same lol
and feather edges with 400...i bought some of that
reface grumpy ..and man does in go on with a 3.5 ani gun.

That stuffs the shit if you want to get a panel flat
dries like concrete if left too long.bought it to
do the front quarter of the lhs guard .i had a go using
it on the lhs lower replacement panel where i welded i
didnt need much .panel was epoxied then reface then
another coat of epoxy to seal it in.done it quick to
stop it absorbing moisture..thinking of using it again
on lower rhs door.high build wont cover it i doubt and
cant really dolly it.. they reckon you get zero shrinkage
Ive been told if i ever use poly again try i think it
was hb 260 and alluneed both are waterproof and sand
easier..
