I have a VN / VP non-electronic 4L60 4 speed auto in a Landcruiser, and I think I have busted a band as 3rd gear is no more.

Does anybody know who the best builder is in Perth? (or Bunno) I don't need a box that will shift gears like it is being done with a sledgehammer, but this ute regularly has a ton in the back of it so it probably needs to be stronger than standard. The motor is a standard VT 5.0 litre.

Plenty of capable builders out there

But the only man I would get to build it would be Peter Veersma ... Welshpool Automatics

I think its 0411 185 333

Thanks for the responses guys. I will give Australind a ring first as it will save me a hundred bucks freight if I use him.

I don’t think it is a VT engine either Laurie. Looks like a VN-VSII or possibly early VSIII. Unless all the top dress stuff has been changed. Engine number prefix will give it away.

TH400 or 3L80 are the go for big heavy stuff or towing, or a 4spd TH400 (4L80E). Not many V8 TH700’s around though, only early VN had them although I don’t think the later VN and VP 4L60 are any different, just a name change. They got pretty good later on though with 4L65E in VZ. Still not as tough as a TH400 based box. Too hard for Laurie to go backwards on this though, best bet is to build the best box possible out of the 4L60 he has.

The motor was a brand new VT unit bought from Holden, but we are only running the VN computer in the Cruiser, so no sequential injection. It is also why we are using the non electronic cable kickdown auto. It was done this way to keep it as simple as possible.

Australind Automatics are booked out until mid Jan. Interesting fella to talk to though. He sounds like he knows his stuff, and I didn't even know he was there.

Ah, makes sense. It is probably an SVM engine number prefix too if I remember how these work. It has the top covers off an earlier engine, but these probably didn’t come with a spare part engine anyway.
