Evening all. I’ve brought the front end of a supposed LJ torana. Have great plans for it (not to be a car though lol). I asked the guy what tags he had from it so I could see history and hopefully a paint colour. What can you tell me from these pics?

1. VIN maybe reads to be an LC!?
2. No paint codes aye?

Hi

Looks like an LJ Torana ADR tag and a VC Commodore VIN tag.

Cheers

Hahaha thanks!  Some more research suggests it might be off a UC! The vin tag anyway.....lucky I was buying the whole car!  Was just hoping to find some history of the front end :)

Not a Commodore or UC Torana era tag.

Base model Commodore sedan is 8K69.

8B69 = Torana S 4 door sedan.

Model year on tag is C = 3. 1973 or 1983. UC Torana production ceased in 1980.

Tag is correct type for LJ, LH Torana and HQ, HJ Holden.

It also has a 'Z' in the VIN, suggesting New Zealand assembly. It does have a GM NZ plate fitted.

The problem is, why does it have an Australian ADR compliance plate ?

Could it be an NZ assembled LC 4-door S Torana, with an Aust. tag added later in life.

Z7 is Trentham VAP, NZ.  The VIN tag indicates a 1973 model year Torana S 4 door sedan with 2850cc high comp engine assembled at Trentham. Perhaps the C suffix instead of a J on the PSN was a factory stuff up?

Could the body shell have been assembled at Elizabeth, fitted with the Aust Compliance Plate(why?) and shipped to NZ for final assembly at Trentham?

Also, the Compliance Plate has ADR 9 for std automatic controls and the NZ Production Options Plate says M20.
