Cool, a HJ Kingswood ute too. Send me the ID and I'll make sure it isn't a disguised Sandman before you go too far with it - is it console shift or column shift?

I used to have a HJ ute that was near identical to yours, ie 4.2 auto Kingswood ute, 2 seater, U17 dash. Even the same colour but mine had a white roof. It was also optioned with Rally Rims.

If you have the space keep the HZ wagon as even though a HJ is closer to a HQ in most ways lots of HZ bits can be used on HJ. Just finding bits today can be a royal pain in the proverbial. The HZ may even have 3.36 gears in the 10-bolt, HJ should be 2.78. You may need the steering arms off the HZ too if you use the power steer, the HJ will probably have the longer arms on it whereas you want the short ones for the steer.

I still have the farm and big hay shed so will keep and strip Wagon some day. Is it worth swapping the front end from Wagon RTS into Ute?

Difference mainly is in the chassis for RTS so no point. Keep the whole thing as trinkets are hard to find.

Sepia is pretty scarce as it was an expensive metallic. I also have J519425 recorded which is almost adjacent to yours (only J519429 between them), it was also a sepia Kingswood ute but with slate black trim (18V). It was a 5.0L auto with air and steer and was also a column shift if I remember correctly. J519429 was a 4.2L 4spd Kingswood ute and possibly a Sandman, and I bet it was sepia too.

See if QR727260 and 0471162 mean anything to you when you pull it apart. It was a stock order car too as it's warranty wasn't activated until June and it was completed in late March.

Here is Sepia in factory paint, this is my HJ Premier.

It is a bit dusty at the moment, I need to get it out and clean it off. Sepia looks awesome in the sun, I almost bought the 5.0L Kingswood ute I mentioned above that was Sepia as I thought it was actually a Sandman, but it was a column shift. Limo's ute would look awesome back in Sepia, hopefully not too much quarter shape damage with those grab rails.

Problem has always been this forum never liked Explorer and does not function with it, but W10 has Edge which does work with it.

One of the contractors at Leigh Creek had a GTS that colour. Always liked it with the black badges.

I saw a Sepia HJ GTS sedan at the Warwick Monaro Nationals, it had a beige vinyl roof and I think 64V trim so wasn't hugely pleasing on the eyes but the colour looked cool. The problem with Sepia on a GTS or Sandman (or SL/R) is the black paint outs disappear, so the car is not as distinctive as a lighter colour car. I found that GTS on Wiki, link below. HJ GTS should have red Monaro and GTS badges plus red GTS stickers.

It is also a short lived colour in the scheme of things, and being a GroupIII metallic it wasn't cheap. It was introduced on colour chart A624 in October 1974, lived through A625 (which was only the change from TA to Gemini) and was replaced with colour chart A626 in March 1976 (A626 only lasted days by the looks as they then released A627 in the same month, same colour chart but with LX Torana added, A626 only had Holden and Gemini on it).

I have seen it on Holden passenger, Statesman, Holden commercial and LH Torana. Not sure if there would be many TA Torana in it, and I haven't heard of a TX Gemini either. The could be some very late HQ in Sepia as well as GMH started changing over to HJ colours before the start of HJ volume production as they wanted all HJ to be in HJ colours, even the pilots. 12 of the 17 HJ colours were used on HQ except at Dandenong where LH Torana continued in old colours until they ran out and also used up remaining HQ colours from the other assembly and body plants. The 5 high volume HQ colours that had no similar colour in HJ remained until the end of HQ.

I was wondering about the tie down rails. So after market and I can remove them and repair holes?

GMH fitted them too but possibly dealer fitted. Just watch the body line on the quarters isn’t squashed flat.

Case in point with the blackouts. They pretty much disappear on Sepia.  It is a very dark colour in the shade.
