Not well known. The ute appears on a 1975 dealer tender as option XX7. The van is in country Victoria. Van is quite interesting, it makes it quite obvious that even in December 1972 Sandman was to receive Kingswood treatment like it eventually did in HX, and somewhere between 12/72 and 1974 they decided to have two trim level Sandmans, Belmont and Kingswood. The 12/72 ute is a Kingswood XX7 of course, but this van has E trim, Kingswood sill strips and chrome Kingswood other stuff. Both are hero colours, Salamanca and March The 17th. Van is top spec driveline L31 M40. Ute is almost top spec, L31 M21 plus LSD. Both completed on 15/12/72 with masked dealer code, Melbourne zone office.
I think the fact that time moved on, designs changed and colour charts changed prior to Sandman release is why the HQ Sandman sales brochure has no photos of these pilots, all the images in the brochure are drawings or doctored photos of sedans or other non-sandman vehicles. The van would have appeared very differently to the eventual Belmont Sandman in how it looked.
