Is this situation a bit like that sh*t fight over the Brock and Harvey VK Commodores?

Thanks for posting some great info and photos

As I’m in lockdown I’ve been a bit bored and reading all of Rodomo's ford books he left here and found this bit of info from Dicks book Don’t tell me I can’t do that.

Interesting, so in one book DJ says it was the Bond 24C 72 rollover car, then the other book he says it was the 73 Brock/Chivas number one car, all the while we see more photos and video of that plenum chamber patch popping up...

I have a pretty good idea why DJ got his wires crossed on the Bond connection to the car he bought though.

I do know that Bond raced 28C with Brock taped over on the door and the racing number changed to 24 at Surfers Paradise 73 so Bond did race it at least once, actually a few times I think.

Makes perfect sense as Colin's car was damaged in the trailer accident. This was the 4th round of the manchamp held at Surfers Paradise on Sunday 11-11-1973. Peter won but Colin received a DNF ( Did Not Finish ) due to a crash. I believe Peter was most upset because Colin damaged his old car ( 28C ). Has anyone got any photos of either Colin or Peter at Surfers Paradise on that weekend or a picture of Colin's damaged car ?

Also has anyone got any photos of Peter's or Colin's cars at the 5th round of the manchamp held at Phillip Island on Sunday 25-11-1973. Peter won, Colin finished second & Barry Nixon-Smith finished Third.

Cheers.

Yep there's a pic of the car on the lower front cover of Australian Muscle Car Magazine issue 116, wearing 24 with Bond on the door (Brock taped over), and the silver/grey plenum patch.

Check bottom of page 14 here for a race report, says Bond blew a tyre on lap 86 and badly damaged the car: https://news.google....frontpage&hl=en

I'll see if I can find pics of the PI Manchamp round http://touringcarrac...lip Island.html

Edit: found the race report https://news.google....frontpage&hl=en

Just found this pic of Brock in "28C" at Warwick Farm in July 73, it's mislabelled as Bond

Harry did sell a LJ XU1 1/72 painted black sometime in 1975 and in march 1976 the same car received a 308 NT#### block.

An interesting thread although some going around in circles , kudo,s for a great provenance history on 28C Dave ...

The real truth is in the cams logbook or the cams application for logbook , either are gold and indisputable .

28C as it is today is legit

28C had the wiper plenum cut for quick access to the wiper linkage etc during Bathurst 72 weekend, they put what looks like red electrical tape over the slice for the race, you can see it in the pics. This was later changed to silver duct tape by the looks, HDT never fixed it properly while they had the car. Right through 73 and probably early 74 while they still had the car it just had grey duct tape. Barry Nixon-Smith bought the car and I think it was him who got another section of plenum from another little Torana and screwed it over the top/tucked it under the windscreen seal.

Dave, it was the HDT that fitted that patch to the plenum grille. Harry sold the car to Nixon-Smith still painted in the HDT livery with 28 on the doors. Colin Bond confirmed the car was Brocks 1972 Bathurst winner.

The picture is of 24 prime body BLJ33###A a late 73 chassis taken in WA after it left Victoria which was purchased from Winter&Taylor Geelong. The warrigal Black XU1 in Orbost (if this is correct) can't be 24C as it was only registered in Victoria for 12 month from 2/72 to 2/73 and expired in the state of Victoria(chassis number, engine number, registration)
