Manual rack tight

Have had rack rebuilt for my LH but it appears to be very tight . Car is on stands and it is a struggle to turn feels ok like no noises etc just tight 

 Will this come right or does it need some adjusting and if so is this a straight forward process

Loosen off the left hand end mounting bolt and see if it frees up. If it doesn't then perhaps the reconditioner has slightly overadjusted the rack yoke tension.

Tried that but no change what is process for adjusting 

I would take it back to whoever reconditioned it (if possible) and get them to  check the adjustments so as to preserve the warranty they offer on their parts and workmanship.

As a reference Derek, I have a reconditioned rack and only just fitted up the steering column to test it and beside slack in the column (need to investigate) the rack is smooth to turn but not sloppy.  Cheers Ron

Try loosening the 2 bolts on the plate on top of the rack that set the preload on the pinion bearing , if it frees up  then there is not enough shim between the plate and rack body.

The plate on the top of the rack is the yoke cover. The plate on the front of the rack housing is the pinion bearing cover.

Agree, loosening the two bolts on the yoke cover will decrease the tension on the yoke which will allow the rack to move with less effort.

Have you tried disconnecting the ends..i.e. is the rack stiff, or is it the suspension?

Thanks for you input guys yes rack is disconnected from steering arms and have loosened off plates top and front 

   Am going to disconnect column and see if that may be an issue as have had that completely stripped in rebuild also
