Hi Fellas,

What is the story with the green glass for Toranas?  I am trying to piece together a set of original glass for my hatch but I just picked up a left hand drivers glass which I was told was clear. It looked a bit too green to be clear but I didn't have anything to compare it to so I just bought it.

I got it home to find its green in comparison to my other glass panels. The other glass i have pretty much clear with a tiny tinge of green.

Is this green a film that can be removed? Can it be polished out?

Hi,

I think the green glass is for A/C cars. Not sure if it’s tint applied to the surface but I think the actual glass is green.

Cheers,

Liz

It will probably have anti sun printed somewhere on it

As far as I am aware it was an option

I also have the same and definately right through the glass

Factory A/C car. Possibly UC as the last few sets of hatchback glass I had and gave away were UC anti sun. But that is how they are. Go look at any HQ-WB with integrated air.

Hi, just be careful if you get tinted glass for the front as I'm pretty sure it is no longer legal.  Cheers Ron

Can’t be illegal, it is as GMH built it! Unless you are Engineering an upgraded car I suppose like when they make you put seatbelts or electric wipers in older cars when you modify them in a way that requires Engineering.

You may be right.  I was just going off what I had previously downloaded regarding Victorian rules. Which seemed to make me think there could be issues when seeking a road worthy.  Here is pdf file.  Cheers Ron

I remember helping my mate doing rego checks years ago.

We had to measure the tint for it to be passed.

Had to be fairly dark for it to fail.

My newly acquired VF SS has pretty dark glass as standard.

Same as my VE SS in 2006

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob.  Out of curiosity, how do you measure the tint darkness?  On a separate note, I am wondering would it be better to get my side windows tinted before they are fitted to the car or after? Cheers Ron

they use a machine, shines a light through the glass the amount of light lost due to tint determines the percentage of the tint

It was a gadget attached to the brake tester in the early days.

Cheers

There is a place round the corner from me does all torana glass clear, green tinted and even dark normal tinted. They also have option for Aussie and Chinese made.

Certainly a lot more options than we had a few years back.

Factory Anti-Sun... it's the business.

Good luck piecing together a full set, though. I didn't know you could buy anything with green tint new, that is certainly interesting.

If you have no use for it, I may consider taking it off your hands.
