So important to conserve and preserve these slices of former motoring history.

Is there actually any thing left? factory wise? All the dealerships gone and not a trace holders were ever sold from there in most cases ,just empty buildings .Do any Holden assembly plants still remain? For something so iconic as Holden it’s unbelievable so much of that history is gone .Wiped!

Extremely little, I think. But what would you expect? Time marches on, and most of the nice history was covered up gradually during renovations over the many decades since Toranas were being screwed together on production lines or showcased on dealership's polished floors.

Below is an old photo of Holden in Dandenong, where they had their own siding and 'General Motors' train station. The huge factories on the left are still standing, they are occupied by one of my customers (non-automotive). I'm actually not sure if they were production line or warehouse.

This factory retains no clues as to what it used to be... just a big arse factory.

The middle grey roof factory is fully gone.

And the RHS grey roof building (the largest in the photo) has either been repaced, or had a new roof and shortened longitudinally as best I can tell. It was the head-office of Holden spare parts I was told, but even that may have changed now. I haven't driven down there to investigate in a while.

And there's a lot less grass in every direction now hahaha.

Some of the Art Deco Holden administration buildings remain at Fishermans Bend but history is being obliterated.

The HDT premises in Auburn Vic have also been demolished

The Elizabeth plant is still standing, seems to be a bit of activity there but not sure what they’re planning to do with it, though.
sad going past it, the whole area just about revolved around the place

I might be wrong but I think CBus now owns the GMH Dandenong site.  Cheers Ron

Pretty sure the Dandenong site is the only site that GM still own in Australia. It is their parts distribution hub, at least for the next few years before it all dwindles away to nothing. I went through there 2 years back when I was working with Holden and it was just a huge distribution warehouse - no history of manufacturing or anything.

Please keep it! It’s a part of Australia’s manufacturing history.

Not sure they still own it Matt. Check out CBUS website.  They may have just leased part of it back.  Cheers Ron

Last nights news showed the army using Elizabeth plant buildings
for military exercises - not pushups, full on let’s pretend to raid the
enemy position type stuff. Full gear, blackhawks overhead
the whole bit
They must have been reading this thread

Yeah - definitely don't own the full site any more. But I assume they still own this: https://goo.gl/maps/yny9JwX1GJReVTY86
