Quality standard sump

Any recommendations on a good quality standard replacement sump for a a 308. Original is pretty battered so bought an Aeroflow one for about $70 . I've painted it already but its pretty flimsy compared to the original and want to check out what else is available . I see plenty on ebay at various prices but is the $150 one going to be the same as the aeroflow? Its no where near as rigid as the original and there is a noticeable weight difference.

I think you can get re-build kits for the original pumps? I've always stuck with the factory alloy pumps. 

The rares ones are really good. Just built an engine using one and it was very much like factory.

I just bought the sump on its own from Speeds in Mitchell ACT who are the Rares supplier here in Canberra. Think it was $180.

Maybe you have a repro of the secret squirrel lightweight lemans sump?

In all seriousness though the sump isn’t a structural component and as long as it seals up properly why would you get a different one?

If we could make something in 1970 surely we can do same or better 50 years later

You should re-write that as:

Another question is should you be using a sump with better oil control than the original?

Something with a windage tray, crank scraper, anti surge design and an extra litre capacity?

I used an Aeroflow tin sump on an LS1.

In the instructions it says to tighten it up in a sequence similar to doing up head bolts.

Circular pattern from the centre moving to the ends to make sure it seals.

I checked mine on my welding plate, which I had drilled to modify an alloy sump.

Did a soapy water test and it had no leaks, unlike my first attempts at TIG welding to modify the alloy sump.
