IMO the single most important part of the car... What is the point of spending thousands and thousands of dollars on that mega HP engine, the hugest biggest brakes in the land, rebuilding the suspension etc etc if the tyres aren't up to spec? The rear will just spin when you try to move, the fronts will lock up when you try to stop, and the car will just keep going straight ahead when you try to turn...

Every tyre is marked with a date stamp from when it was manufactured and generally have a shelf life of 5 to 6 years, regardless if its been sitting undercover or not.

the tyres on my old mans XU-1 are over 15 years old, they still hold the road well in the dry, car doesnt go in the rain so it doesnt matter....

Interesting investigation,
I just had look at my Sumitomo HTR 200 205/60/13 which I bought last year a they have a very non cryptic manufacturing date
"3MAR0307", so Im relieved slightly.
I wonder how old some of the carcasses are on retreaded tyres out there?
