Sounds like a good car to own, practically one owner & unrestored.

Up to $160K
bazza , what makes you think this ?
the highest price i have heard of a good 73 bath go for is 92k recently , is there any others that have sold for over a 100k recently , however we all know they are up there in value but when one is sold for a pretty penny then that sets the new benchmark .... untill this happens up to a 100k is my bet ....

I agree.I'm no expert but I think $100,000 is a little steep for a XU-1 with a blown engine. I guess it depends if the damage is repairable.
Steve
If the engine is repairable, then up to 100K. If the engines shot though, probably 60 odd. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the engine that made the cars go fast? Once that's gone there's a hell of alot of value lost.
Just putting out there!
Scott.

Still be interested to talk to the owner about it though.

$160K. I don't mean to sound evasive, but I have said enough already.

the prices are getting out of control and way out of reach for the typical aussie bloke, you used to be a hard worker if you owned one but now you have to be a bloody millionaire, its bloody stupid

There are a lot of people that know that if they dont get it now they may never see them again
Any raises on $7000? or is it unreasonable?
Cheers

is that car then worth the same as an original car i.e all original not just genuine given that the car and motor don't match?
If the answer is yes, why then is a JP motor put into a reshelled Torana S with xu-1 tags considered to be a worthless replica. I know that the XU-1 and GTR had limited builds, but what is the difference between changing shells and changing engines
The money has gone crazy. I can see an original unrestored gem getting alot of money but some people out there are asking 50K for an XU-1 without it's original engine. I say those that pay the money for these sort of cars will continue to price the cars out of the market.
I don't care how good a 73 Bathurst XU-1 is, If I'm going to spend 100K or more on a car, be it now or in 15 years, then I'm buying a Porche or some other magnificently engineered car....not a 1973 Holden.
By the way, I've had over 20 cars and they have all been Holdens and I LOVE the XU-1, but it's becoming ridiculous.
Just glad I got mine before it went totally nuts.

No the car will not fetch the same cash as a all matching numbers carOk I'll put this to you all. If a JP motor out of one XU-1 is put into another XU-1
is that car then worth the same as an original car i.e all original not just genuine given that the car and motor don't match?
My XU-1 will not have its original JP but I will learn to live with that, untill my one shows up, if ever
In saying that I dont really care how much they are worth as I would never sell mine, all it does is drive up my insurance premiums
Im also glad I got mine before it went crazy $9000 paid 3 years ago no motor
Cheers

I have not seen the car but my mate took a lot of convincing that it had not been repainted recently.
Apparently the drivers seat and drivers door trim and carpet are well worn, the handbrake handle is cracked as is the gearknob otherwise, all is very good.
The elderly gentleman refuses to let the car stay in the family, there's a turn up for the books.

Two genuine unmolested 8/73 cars with engines from JP 386598 onwards .
Both still have the JP engines they left the assembly plant / plants with .
Car 1 has a SINGLE block casting date.
Car 2 has TWO block casting dates .
VALUE --- EXACTLY THE SAME .

This is what we've been waiting for.
Work out what is the difference between the two motors and we may find our answer.
I think we need a race?
I reckon the dual cast car will be slower due to the extra metal in the engine for the second cast date, and due to the weight of expectation.
Its a shame Mythbusters have finished
