I think they are the same. If it's whats called the ''heater case'' in the parts manuals they have the same part numbers. In saying this the ''heater and demister assemblies'' don't share a part number.

The control cable that comes out for the cabin and attaches to the top of the heater case on a 72 is held in place with a clip similar to the choke cable clip on your carbies and the 73`s are held with a small screw and nut and NO I don`t know when the change over was.

Hang on there is more to it than that.

LC heater assemblies are fixed to the base plate with clips.

LJ heater assemblies have bolts with the nots exposed to the engine bay.

After reading other peoples responses I wonder if the boxes are the same but some of the bits in/on/around the box are different.

All of the boxes have the clips across the front of them and then bolts around the back ,the bolts you speak of are around the fan assembly side of the heater assembly.By all my books I count 7 clips across the front of the boxes...LC/LJ

the lc ones came in two different styles.
1 is fan forced (identical to Lj)
1 isnt . The second one looks like the vent only casing but with the heater hoses entering from each side and there brilliant for v8 conversions.
the third if a vent only (no heater). i own all 3.
cheers tom

I agree with Munro, however I have seen both fan forced and non fan forced on LCs and LJs.

Dr Terry?

Smiley mentioned he thought the change from clip to nut and bolt holding the control cable to the heater box came between 72 and 73.
I have the heater box from a 72 and it has the nut and bolt. The car definately had white blinkers. IIRC that id's it as a 72?
If not my apologies
cheers

Sorry I do not thonk anyone has adequqtely explaned the difference I was refering to.

The clip business explained above is only part of the difference.

1 - I was talking about the fan forced heater assembly.

2 - From what I have seen the LJ heater assembly has vertical stud bolts with exposed nuts around the heater casing to the steel base at the wiper motor end of the heater. The LC's seem to only use clips all around the fiberglass casing to hold it together with the flat steel base of the case.

Further to add to this thread.

Can anybody tell me the name of the plate that bolts to the firewall that the heater box feeds into ?

Also it would be very handy for some pics in this tread highlighting the difference between the models.

What we need is Bazza with his magic marker pen!!! Bazza where are you ???

cheers

Yes, however the control cable attachment on the top of the heater box is different between LC & LJ. LC cable uses a clip onto the attaching plate and the LJ cable has a moulded plastic lug that bolts to the attaching plate.

What Dave said..just use the lj cable and
bobs you uncle unless your going original..

Edit: actually cable mightn fit as the lug
on cable has to pass through a smaller hole
on heater box shelf than what lj have.you
could drill hole fractionally bigger to allow
it to pass andthen seal it up if you like or
just get the plate for box to suit cable..

Cheers

One other difference, very minor and easy to replicate. LC XU1s only had an extra hole in them.
