ok so i have had this torana for quite a number of years with plans of doing a number of things to it. Due to VCE, money (lack of!), and now uni i have done nothing to it, except watch it wither away in the harsh environment! BUT these uni holidays i have had alot of time to read many of other peoples threads about there projects and it has really inspired me to get my act together. So i have been working my ass off at my casual job taking any extra shift i could to help pay off things (such as my daily driver) and what not.

To get to the point, today i purchased my dream driveline; a 253 V8 with a 4 speed manual to drop in! :D Boy was i stoked when i got this!!

Ok so i should tell you all know what my plans are for my car:

1. Remove rust of course (mind you there isnt much)
2. Respray in Devil Yellow
3. Drop the 253 4 speed in with twin exhausts and extractors
4. Lower it

If anyone is interested in helping me out with any of these things i wish to do please let me know as i have very limited tools and not a great deal of knowledge!!

There are a few other little things that need to be done but these are my main targets! If anyone has any comments feel free to speak your mind!! :spoton:

Heres a few pics:

You keeping the wide stockies on it? IMO it'd look better with a set of 14" or 15" alloys on it. Especially when it's resprayed Yellow and Lowered.

Looks good, a bloody good project start. You want me to photochop a pic of it lowered and yellow?

oh RIM could you please?? :D I attempted this the other day with elements 4.0 but lost concentration too easy!! :tease:

As for your question regarding wheels, i have always liked the look of sprintmasters so i was going to get a set of them for it but to get it going and not making it a huge project to begin with, i am going to stick with the wide stockies as i think they look alright. If you have any wheel suggestions in mind let me know!

Yes it is a bloody straight, reasonably rust free car to begin with... i am even more greatfull after going through some of the others members projects that mine is so rust free! And to think when i got it it was going to become a paddock basher... lucky my passion for toranas over-rode my young brain to not put it through hell!! Hence it sitting outside for years...

Dude. Sprintmasters + LX = No No. Just don't do it. It's an unwritten law. Sprinters are an LC/LJ wheel.

I'll see what I can do with Photoshop...

Yeah, they're a great looking wheel. But have you ever seen em on an LH/LX/UC?

only ever seen pictures... for example the article they did on the SLR5000 in AMC and the A9X in Unique Cars... not saying they are the best looking wheels i have ever seen on a torana but i was always just a fan of the look.

You'd be speaking of GTS rims... Theyre 14", and HQ Stud pattern.

Lowered and Yellowed.

that'd be sweet! :spoton: What wheels do you reckon would suit Devil Yellow the best? LS1's LX in yella has some nice looking mags on it, but cant do the same as him!

Well, it depends. Your's is sounding like it's gunna be a nice streeter, nothing too special (no offence), so I'd go a set of 14's or 15's. Like my ROH Prostars, but you can't have them.

I'll see what I can do.

RIM just had a quick look at your thread again to refresh my memory of the Prostars you tried on yours and i like the look of them. I think they would suit you car too... just a shame they dont fit.

I'm guessing that since you're in uni now, you'll have your weekends free, so how about organising a weekend to work on the car? Chuck some snags on the barbie, get a slab of beer and get anyone who lives in Melbourne and reads these forums to rock on over. You've got Heath, Matty and Makka, me and plenty more! With a good number of guys working who've got more than a vested interest in the preservation of these beautiful cars, you'll get a heap of work done in a very short time! Plus, I'm sure once you pooled the respective tools that we've got in our sheds, there'd be almost nothing you couldn't fix! :spoton:
Incidentally, which side of Melbourne are you on?
Also, what course are you doing?

Cheers,
John

Couldn't have said it better John! And yes if people are seriously keen in doing that then im more than happy to grab a few slabs and snags!! :spoton: Only problem is im over the other side of town from where Heath, and i pressume Matty and Makka are from. Im from North west-ish side of Melbourne in a town called Riddells Creek, and if you have never heard of that then its a 15 minute drive from Sunbury, and then if you havent heard of that its in the Macedon Ranges... I kinda went over your side of Melbourne yesterday and its a 1 and a half hours drive with no traffic! :tease:

As for my uni course i have completed first year, and starting second year at the end of February doing Automotive Engineering.

Thanks for the interest! :D

Oh and for those that arent aware these pictures are bigger... you just have to click on them and they will load as bigger pics... this just saves time in page loading for everyone.

Removed the master cylinder and brake booster today to reveal the extent of the rust underneath them. Obviously the master cylinder spewed its guts and had to be replaced! Damn brake fluid is nasty...

Oh and does anyone know the best way to remove the brake lines from the engine bay so that i can really attack this rust properly?

Yipes, looks like a decent bit of work to be done in the engine bay!

I live in the western suburbs, so Riddells Creek is only about 45 minutes from me. And yes, I know where it is because I've been to the scout camp there before (on a school camp). :spoton:

My studies will preclude me from any activities unless they're on a Saturday, which would probably work better for most of the guys here anyway. Let us know!

Cheers,
John

The correct tool is called a pipe spanner.. like a ring spanner but with a small section of the ring missing.. just big enough to go over the pipe and then onto the nut part of the pipe fitting. They usually come double ended.. ie 3/8 7/16 or metric 10/12 mm.
