No mate, my sills are nearly perfect. Get out the wire brush attachment and get rid of that rusty shit, convert it and prime it for now... Work on that later; not sure what the best method of attack would be, also depends on how "properly" you want to do it.

I'd probably be trying to repair the hole by filling it up with the MIG, or even just cutting out all of the existing rust and fibreglassing it up a little.

Anyway, as I said, take it back to bare metal, photos, rust convert it, photos, prime it, leave it for now.

At least it doesnt look like anyone has being in there before u i would be pushing for the good and proper fix considering it round the roof pillar area which might affect the integrity of the shell nothing worse then finding a shitty chicken wire and bog job :D

this is exactly what i am doing with the rust i have found to date. attacking with wire brush, then the wire wheel, a quick clean up with thinners and then on goes the Ranex rust buster!! :P but seriously, the Ranex rust converter is fantastic stuff and goes along way too! Highly recommended. then a spray with some metal primer.

After the pics were taken i wire brushed, wire wheeled, clean up with thinners and then on went the Ranex. Will post up some pics of how it came up tomorrow. I may also complete this process again.

As for fibre glassing, im not too keen on that, as this rust is quite severe and the holes are rather large! For now i will clean it up as much as possible, prime it and leave it as the last thing on the list for preparation before paint.

Yes correct, no one has been in there before me trying to 'bodge' it up. Infact i dont think my car has any bog in it, that im aware of... fingers crossed!!

I am definately leaning more towards a permanent fix to the problem, rather than filling it with bog. Just a matter of either finding someone with the skills to mold up replacement sections as i dont think rarespares do the pillar sections.

Btw lucky you heath on having good sills!!! :D

cheers

lol, Skillful.

Fibreglassing isn't that much of an issue, as long as you still keep the folds etc; it's just an awkward place to weld and you don't have a welder. But if you supply me with beer, a MIG and a mask, I'll bring around some clamps and see what I can do with it.

welding isnt the biggest problem rim... its molding the metal to be a nice fit, and so that the window seals properly when reinstalled. or am i looking too much into this?

I got to thinking last night about the interior and the colour i wish to paint it, devil yellow. I really want to keep my original interior and colour but im starting to think that the colours wont match... My interior is brown with black dash.

what does everyone think? any other suggestions for a colour that would suit a brown interior?

Cheers toryman76

just get seat covers for the seats and devil yellow will look awesome!

But if you dont want seat covers then a colour like Antelope would look really nice, or contessa gold, or even just a night White with a pearl..

Go Contessa.

Contessa Gold is one of the nicest colours getting around.

Brown goes alright with Green, too...

not a fan of contessa on torana's, Persian sand is heaps better IMHO.
the Borwn wont look too bad with the Yellow, flax interior would be the best though

not really an update on the torry, but the shed is getting concreted this week!! :D Cant wait... finally i will have somewhere clean to work!!! woot! Any way we spent all of yesterday cleaning out the shed and throwing out all the unecesary junk and have managed to completely fill a 4 cubic meter skip bin! The concrete cant be driven on for four days so no work will be done on the torry in that time and unfortunately i go back to uni tomorrow... not looking forward to it... We are also going to paint the concrete so that means a further few weeks waiting so we can paint the concrete.

last night i put on the final coat of ranex rust buster around the rear windscreen channel. This was probably the 3rd time i had done it; wire brushing it, ranex-ing it, sanding and reapeating. This is how it looked before i sprayed it with undercoat:

Theres more on photobucket but these give ya the gist. still plenty of rust there but hopefully the ranex has slowed the process of it getting much worse!

Heres as it looks now after i gave it a couple of quick coats with the spray paint:

Also done the same process on the engine bay under the brake booster/master, and heres how it looks now:
