QL means that it is out of an HQ, J, X or Z and it's your run of the mill 202. XU-1s are 3100X, CK or JP.doesnt the L mean its a low compression engine, large chamber head,
and the XU1s have H high compression small chamber head
correct me if im wrong

were talking about heads NOT blocks L and H cast in heads not the engine prefix.QL means that it is out of an HQ, J, X or Z and it's your run of the mill 202. XU-1s are 3100X, CK or JP.doesnt the L mean its a low compression engine, large chamber head,
and the XU1s have H high compression small chamber head

CK.
however maybe the blocks are
JL = J for series LJ and L for low comp
QL = Q for series HQ and L for low comp
JP= lj series and P = performance upgrade XU1 engine
this could be just a good calculated guess on the numbering
what do you recon?

L = 202
P = 202 (XU1)
Can't remember 173 - is it D?
I think that is what the letter designation means.

That's right, the letters don't have any meaning apart from identifying the type of engine, L has nothing to do with low compression it's just the letter GMH chose to use.K = 186
L = 202
P = 202 (XU1)
Can't remember 173 - is it D?
I think that is what the letter designation means.

I have this head on my engine at the moment. The only thing is that my head is a 186 head, Not an LJ 202 head. It also has E 7 1The number is - 2811930 Holden 6
It has the large chamber and has the L for low comp cast into the side of the head. I got from YT as a change over many years ago.Does this head have a small or large combustion chamber

For example, the 2811930(casting number)/2819457(spare part number) head is used for a number of different engines giving the result of:
2250 eng 7.8:1 comp ratio (low)
2850 eng 8.3:1 comp ratio (low) + dished pistons
3300 eng 9.4:1 comp ratio (high)
The 2811929(casting number)/2819454(spare part number) head is the "H" cast head used on LJ's to produce a high compression version of the 2250 and 2850 engines.
The 202 used dished pistons with the 2811930/2819457 head to make a 7.8:1 low-compression version, originally only in HQ's as a "QM" engine, later in LJ's as a "JM" engine.

Ive read this about 10 times now .ime confused still.so a 2811930 head is only on gtr or is it on more 202 s
2811930 is applicable to all high compression GL, JL, QL and HL 202 engines prior to ADR 27A.
