As many will have noticed i just purchased this car from oldcar76 for $700... It has rego till June this year with original plates... Ben was very sad to see her go but it will be done up nicely... i actually like the fact he kept the original papers and manuals aswell as it was his grandads car from new.... good momento!

He has owned it since 1988... i was 2 years old at the time! Had a reconditioned Bill Lee (hdt) 202 fitted in 1993~. It has been around Australia with Ben & a mate of his... It also had a respray back in the early 90's aswell as you'll tell from the option plate...

Anyway specs are:
1976 LX SL
202 Red Motor
Column Shift Automatic
Yella Terra Head (unsure of which one till i have a closer look)
Redline Manifold
350 Holley
V8 Radiator
Extractors
New Alternator & Harmonic Balancer

Near Future Plans:
Fit drivers door from the skid car
Fit passenger side doors from bro (once i've made sure they are in good nick)
Fit passenger side front guard from skid car
Swap dash over to the black dash from skid car & black ash tray from Gav
Get new black carpet & fit
Start prepping the car for paint (Barbados Green with SLR blackouts - Myself and Mrs love it!)

Future Plans:
Fit new black rooflining & some new door trims
Once body is done fit new front and rear brakes & change to commodore stud
New suspension (complete rebuild)
Have some perfect VL Commodore seats to go in... seatcovers to!
Remove the 202
Change to floor shift and install 308 or 304 (when i've decided)
Tint
Twin system
Then engine modding begins!

Who had fun with it? i havent driven it since its been home... except to take the pics... the plates are now off and tucked away inside :D

On another note.. picked up a new Passenger front door today... will be dropping it off at panelbeaters tomorrow to have a small rust hole welded up where they drain on the corner... the rear door was stuffed so i'm chasing another...

Will update thread with some more pics as i've started getting stuck into it... have organised paint/hardener/reducer etc through a mate... also the same mate will be spraying the car in approximately 6 weeks so i've got to get my arse into gear...

Oh don't you worry the 6 won't be in there for all too long... Just want the paint and interior done first so it doesnt end up half done like my numerous previous cars...

A quick update though... Have put the word out for a LHS rear door... will write up a wanted post in the next few days if i don't have no luck... Also i have 4 perfect retrimmed door trims given to me by my bro (arent bros good??)

I'm going down south this weekend to visit him & his kids and to stay at my parents for the long weekend so i'll see what else i can scrounge up hehe.... He also sold his TA Torana to a member from CTCC but also a recent member of here named Dennis???? Whoever you are you are very lucky hehe...

Heres a pic of the door trims...

Cheers mate will do that then...

Also since i'm picking a door up off Dan355 next week... will be dropping the 2 new LHS doors off at old man's mates workshop next Saturday to be welded up and then the major fun begins...

Am now having a hard time deciding the colour as i was thinking going a darker version of my 1st car which was Imperial Blue with purple pearl or Barbados Green... both would have SLR blackouts etc... What do a few of you think?

The wife thinks, blue with the purple pearl. but as rebel says in "Running on Empty", "green is good". It depends how individual you want to be.

Well bit of an update... Pulled the battery out and charged it the other night!

Still waiting on my doors to come back so i thought i'd pull the old girl out to play with a few little niggly things.

Firstly gave it a degrease which was pretty damn time consuming and it might still need another one thats more in detail. Upon the completion of the degrease notice a small metal plate on the RHS of the engine mount. It has a serial number 25871 and dated 5-12-92 from when HDT fitted the 202 to it. Does the number mean anything? Also as i can now get the serial number off the Yella Terra head is there anyway to find out if it was a stage 1 or 2 etc?

Spent 2-3 hours polishing the rocker cover/oil cap and top plate of the air cleaner. Grabbed the little rubber grommet from the top of the head out of the black LH for the LX as the LX had a split in it where i'd say the oil was coming from.

Also nicked the Washer bottle from the black LH and the squirters work :D

Then pinched one window winder.

Then noticing the vacuum tube to the dizzy was broken so swapped the actuator with the LH and refitted the tube. runs alot smoother now.

Heres a few pics from the 'cleanup'

Next on the attackNew chrome thermostat housing & thermostat
Remove brake booster and repaint it
Remove heater box cover and repaint it
Polish mirror
Drop the oil & change it with new filter at same time
Service the diff & box
Chane the leads and put new plugs in at same time
Then hopefully i'll have the doors back so then i can buy new carpet and go get it dyno tuned so its all running nicely... Should do me well while i'm saving for the V8 gear!

Some of the previous links to pics may not work as my U.S server is down and it won't let me edit the posts!

Whats everyones thoughts? Any suggestions?

G'day Dan, sounds like it is coming along well.

My brother told me a few weeks ago about something I never knew about that car. If you park the car in the pouring rain, a tiny amount of water appears on the inside in the passenger front foot well, said he traced it back up to the left side just at the front of the lining, I guess a couple of inches forward of the factory speaker, not sure really, he said he peeled the lining away about an inch to see where it came from and that it should still be cracked little, said there was no rust or anything. I can try him for more info if you can't find it.

The reason I didn't know about that, the car had been in the rain once since 1996. Also trying to look for the Bill Lee invoice from the engine build, all in the baby's room under 10 tonnes of junk so dom't like my chances. The only thing I found was the original steel wheels in a shed and the original advertising brochure from 1976.

Nice mate... I also found that leak out today to when degreasing the car. It is from the RHS Wiring loom grommet... its pulled through to the inside. Would be nice to get the HDT invoice to but theres no rush i've got lots of cleaning up to do!

Well after a long awaited updated i have some decent news.

The 2 replacement doors are going on this week all beated and prepped but will only be pressure packed as i wont have the funds for a proper job until next year due to house etc.

Carpet is also in from the skid car as i need to drive the car 200k's to my nan's place for storage so i can move into the mrs's olds place to save $$

Also i just had to get a replacement diff for my daily after assuming i had snapped the panhard mount only to find out today that it just needed a new rubber kit. So i purchased a whole complete 28 spline disc brake diff from a calais turbo for a bargain of $100 so now it will be ending up shortened and fitted into the torana!

Also on other news hooked a tacho up to the torana as i noticed it could rev quite high and its hits just over 7000rpm. Must be a serious head/cam job! Going to get onto the previous owner "oldcar76" to see if i can get those brochures/steel wheels/hdt invoice just for history sake

Will get some fresh pics up when the doors are on!

Heres one pics though!

Well both the toranas are being trailered to my nan's place down south. Didn't want to risk a defect or hoon law in the white one so it will be trailered first. It will now have its own lockup garage and the skid car (black lh) will have a carport. More pics when they get there as they are chockers with parts/wheels at the moment!
