What seat belts did you use ?

 

The retractable rears are HZ i believe

Still waiting for the dash from AISAT

Also being 5x120 pattern all around my wheel track was too skinny for engineering (you are only allowed to go wider) so the billets have been offset modified to suit

Interior mostly back in (first time it's had carpet in over 10 years!). The left hand side doors will need painting when the engineering circus is over hence the different trims

Yeah it is pretty strange

 

It is a mixture of the R31 diff swap and Hoppers on the front

 

Otherwise surely anyone that does the usual HQ stud swap doesn't have track problems

 

I guess no one worried about it unless it is being engineered

If I remember correctly this diff came out of a VL Commodore and got shortened for the Torana?

 

Commodore wheels will always be the correct offset for a Commodore diff, no matter whether it's been shortened or lengthened. I'm guessing your engineer must be using the original Torana track measurements, which is wrong, he or she needs to re-read the NCOP!

 

From NCOP11-Section-LS-Tyres-Rims-Suspension-Steering-Wheel-Track, Page 47:

It's based on "the axle manufacturer's original track dimension", not the fitted vehicle's original specs.

 

The whole idea is to maintain the axle manufacturer's intended load across the wheel bearing(s) and axle assembly. Trying to achieve the Torana track figure would be like bolting really wide offset wheels on a Commodore, which would/should never pass engineering on a diff in a Commodore, so why should it pass on a Commodore diff in anything else.

The factory track cannot be reduced and can only be increased by a maximum of 25 mm. This allows you to reduce the factory rim offset by a maximum of 12.5 mm with the factory diff.

 

The final track of the vehicle fitted with a replacement diff has to comply with the above rules. The only thing that changes is the baseline rim offset which can only be increased by a maximum of 12.5 mm.

 

If you cannot achieve the required track with a replacement diff by increasing the donor rim offset by up to 12.5 mm then you must reduce the diff width.

 

From memory R31 diff is a similar width to the standard Torana diff so it will need a rim with a similar offset to the Torana rims. The Torana rims have an offset around +6 mm. The R31 factory offset is around +30

 

The steel rims on the car now appear to be Commodore rims which have an offset around +41 mm to +43 mm which will make the track too narrow. You should be able to achieve the required track by reducing the rim offset.

 

The only thing to watch out for is brake clearance with the reduced offset rims.

The track is on point now with the modified commodore steelies

 

I hope to get some hotwires for it when funds allow, for now i just want to go cruising with the family and put some k's on it so don't really care what rims it has

Well there was major delays on the dash at AISAT. It certainly looks the part though!

 

The angle and daylight i took the pic makes the yellow look a bit light but i assure that it is not

 

It is a LH SLR Cluster, with VDO electronic speedo, electronic tacho, voltage reg mod, calibrated & all lights tested, new rares lense kit, lx slr decals from grafixunlimted

 

Will comment on it's operation after i drive the car myself

Hopefully engineer can get the swept volume, brake & noise test done next week that is all that will be left after the dyno!

 

It is sitting nice now the offset is correct, also swapped to VL Wagon shocks as the lovells weren't captive

Do you have to go to a DOT inspection centre or can you just head down to Central Garage and get Sheppy to do the inspection?

Just Sheppy, but have to wait for DoT to process the engineer's report first.

 

Being christmas time this might be a post new years thing, AISAT are not back until 2nd week of January to sort the dash out anyway.

Absolutely no need for power steering, steers better than my old 308 Kingswood that had power steering

Had a few looks and chats to/from the weighbridge

 

It's a little different from the normal fancy paint jobs and flares but i'm not into that flashy business anyway :)
