Flares allow you to run wider wheels and give you a wider wheel base, something tubbing does not.

Wider wheel base gives better stability through corners.

Your son will appreciate this extra traction when he finds himself behind the wheel of a 355 stroker.

Safety first! LOL

Personally, my car has flares and as much as i love them, you cant go past a unflared Torana with a nice set of wheels on it.

Just like the neat G-Pak that is for sale ( i think its Hawks car, it looks hot!).

You want something that stands out and grabs people's attention.

..............flares grab ppls attention

Ok then, I'll take a bog stock SLR 5000 or SS to a show and a modified one and see which one gets the attention.

yep, I drove a stock SLR5000 the other day and got plenty of looks, most people look at my A9X and think just another Torana with flares.

I absolutely love flares on LH/LX's, but in this case I'd advise to leave them off, and just get some 205's on 7" wheels to fill the guards. The reason, you don't want the cops hassling out your son in 12 years time!!!! Unfortunately flares and P plates attract the wrong sort of attention.

^ The other reason is that your more likely to be able to get 13/14" tyres to suit 7" rims in 12 years, whereas 245/265's are already getting patchy.

^ mmm, haven't seen that one. Even with 15" you can have problems with touching, just a matter of knowing how to fix it. Had to do that with BMXer's old car, he thought the sky was falling, but didn't take long to fix.

unflared toranas do look awsome but there is nothing like a flared torana with wide ass wheels drop tank rear spolier and duel exhaust either way u choose there both awsome cause its a torana damn rim is convincing was changing my thoughs there

^ I agree about the fat wheels, droptanks and duels with flares. BUT! Shitloads of Torana's copped that treatment in the 70's and 80's. So unflared examples are rarer. If you want a flared one, I'd buy a flared one, not kill an unflared one.

If it was me, I'd do it like the grey one but painted as an original SLR, so basically then it's just wheels. It would look tough but still have the original SLR look.
