hey everyone

i know there has been numerous questions asking about clutch types before, but after doing a search i didnt find out exactly what i wanted. im not too sure how im going to setup my clutch when the engine/gearbox goes in.

by the looks of the pictures of the hydro setup im not all that keen as it clutters up the engine bay, and looks like it would be a bitch to fill!

i am leaning more towards a cable setup however trying to find a UC clutch pedal seems to be a bit of a problem. my question is, will a LX Sunbird clutch pedal be the same? i went out and had a look at it and it has the hook mounted on the top that seems similar to what people have described the UC one as. it is a 4 speed phillipino box (completely useless!) and is a cable clutch setup.

As for the rat trap setup, when i bought my motor and box it came with what looks to me as half a rat trap setup, but im not 100% sure. the motor and box is believed to be from a HJ so would the rat trap be suitable? heres some pics of it:

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

EDIT: forgot to mention that this is for a 253 4 speed and thats what the rat trap came from.

I have the sunbudgie cable set up in my sedan, apart from my heavy foot breaking the cables I prefer them over the rat trap and hydraulic set ups.

The pic of the "hook" pedal looks to be the same as mine.

The hook itself is what I meant looks to be the same.. Cant say I have taken any notice of what the rest looks like.

As it is I know about the hook cos of the breaking the cables :(

With a 1 ton pressure plate you will break cables regularly.

so would you recommend a 1 ton pressure plate? or is that only for a more worked motor application? i dont intend on doing anything wild to my motor...

mines had some work done and has the 1 ton plate.

I've gone through 4 cables in the last 2 years, but I have had the car for close to 10yrs. Not sure if it is the quality of cable or not.

i have a problem with snapping clutch cables too..
its sutch a bitch!!
a few people have reccomended taking your cable to a cable maker, and getting them to make a really heavy duty one.
thats what im going to do, the clutch cables you buy from the shops are made of plasic and are really poor quality, no wonder they break.

My LX has been converted to a hyd clutch & it's still heavy on the pedal. I hate the way the master cyl fits onto the firewall & the chance of a brake fluid spill dosent exite me either. I was going to change back to cable but sounds like I need to get a heavy duty cable made. How hard would it be to convert back to cable?

this is didnt excite me either... hence why im looking for alternatives. im sure its been brought up before, but does anyone know how much a heavy duty cable would cost to get made up?

Who can measure their cable for me.
Give me the eye to eye length of the wire and the installed length of the outer ie from firewall to box.

110cms from end to end

Is that the inner wire, eye to eye or is it the outer?

Chopper was asking about cables not so long ago and I dropped into:

http://www.fdrive.co...earchcables.php

And asked if they make up "specials"
They said they can make what you want for around $130.

^ Cheers, while you got it there, measure from where the nut contacts the firewall (wind it right on) and to where it site in the bell housing.

If you are buying standard cables for 1/2 of $130 you are being ripped off.
The $130 is to make what you want to your specs.

The difference last time we went through this with Chopper was the length of the inner cable.

What actually do the LH V8s use to clear extractors then?
