timing on an EFI v8

how do i check the timing on an EFI 304 motor? is it as simple as a holden 6, probably not.

my engine bogs down and i have a suspision it's the timing

please share your tips here!

You are meant to put it into diagnostics mode & set the timing to 10 degrees.

how do i put it in diagnostic mode?

and i look for a notch on the balancer yeah?

On a vr/s or a vt there is a black pad with pins on it above the brake pedal,bridge pins 5 & 6 with a wire or split pin then start car & check the timing on the balancer,to adjust timingby turning the distributer.

If you want to check fault codes,you do the same thing,bridge pins 5 & 6 then then turn on the ignition & fault codes will come up.

Vn/p have a plug up under the dash on the passenger side that you bridge the pins on to put it into diagnostics mode.I may have a diagram for that on photobucket.

a pic would be great if not too much hassel. it's actually a 304 VP motor in my UC so i need to know what im looking for.

Think it's out of the holden manual.On a vl I wired up few months back I used a test light to check for fault codes.
