Hi all,

My locks on my qtr vent windows are loose-ish and leak a bit when its raining. What is the best method for tightening them up??
Also i am thinking of maing up some anti theft boxes for them too, the Nasco ones are too expensive for me, is there a cheaper alternative???

Cheers,
mick

Maybe the fibre rings have worn out on either side of the glass? I think there is a pin that needs sliding out in the handle before you can remove them though...

Dont mean to hijack this thread , but would anyone have a pair of the "anti-theft" brackets that fit over the 1/4 vent locks ?

On the handle on the inside there is a pin at the bottom of the handle running the direction of the front to the back of the car, this needs to come out before you can undo the handle off the 1/4 glass. Then you just slip new washers on both sides of the window and reassemble.

Can anyone advise on how you get these fitting off when they're glued? I tried tapping one and the glass exploded into a zillion pieces.

I'm thinking heat-gun, or thinners?

Maybe both at once for a real explosion.

Never tried this myself cause the glue had already let go on mine but it's just a thought.
Try some acetone (nail polish remover). Pour it into the annular space between the fitting and the glass and let it soak in. You may need to top it up now and again.

Cheers
Dave.

The best way to remove the glass is with a small hand held steamer

I asume it would just be a roll pin? I
tell you what loctite freeze & release
spray is brilliant for release tight
things use heat gun spray this in leave
for 2 minutes to work & pull out very
handy when removing a stuck spigot bush.
All these ideas are worth trying appart
from the explosion allthough it does
sound cool let us know oh & the fibre
things are called fibre washers cheap &
esential & work a treat on heaps on
heaps of things ie absorb vibration ect.

I used the acetone to dissolve the glue, then crc to loosen rust. Then by using a pin punch I knocked out the pin which let the handle come of revealing the spring. The pin has a knurled edge on one side so I was punching from the side were the pin was in the hole a bit. The part that goes through the glass has a flat edge on the end, I stuck that in the vice and undid the locking nut.

To remove the chrome screws that clamp the glass i used an impact driver with great success. After the acetone and crc routine.

Thanks for your help.

Marty
