How did the SL/R get its name

Can someone tell me how did the SL/R torana get its name (SL/R) and what does it stand for.
Same question for the A9X and XU1

i think A9X and XU1 were option codes for their relevant models SL/R5000 and GTR just like the L34 was the engine code for the racing model LH SL/R's

correct me if im wrong

Thought SL/R was Sport Luxury/Racing?

SS = Super Sports

SL = Sport Luxury .....yeah right

A9X & XU1 are option codes, GT/R = Grand Tourer Racing ?

All completely unverified!!!!!!!!

SL/R = Sports Luxury Racing,
SL = Sorts Luxury
S = Sports
SS = Super Sports

SLR stands for Super Luxury Racing
SL is Super Luxury
and SS is Super Sport

Hi

I was looking at another Holden/Torana site and it suggests that SL/R
stands for Sports Light/Racing.

Haven't heard that one before.

i remember seeing some were that the first clay mode of the LH had xu2 stickers
but by the time it went into production the xu2 code was taken or being used for a bedford truck. :blink:

SS = Super Sport ... It's in the Torana ad. Find it on youtube.

"It's available in two versions, this Super Luxury SL and this sporty SS."

"This super sport SS featues radial tyres on sports style wheels"

So I would assume that SL/R is Super Luxury Racing

i no the mercedes slr mc laren stands for super light racer a guy i used to work with worked for mercedes for yrs

Thats what I use to shoot SLR's. I wouldnt want to shoot an SLR with the other SLR though..... that would be silly.

In reference to the GTR acronym, wasn�t it GM�s policy not to go motor racing, didn�t they officially go �Rallying� instead? :driving:

I'm pretty certain HE called it a rifle but I don't know the difference as i'm not much into that sort of thing! i always thought guns are guns.

Hi,
my guess would be this,
It is a deriviative of the Mercedes Benz term SLR,
that has been in use since the 1930's,
Roughly translated from German,
Super Light Racer.

Holden used
SL/R,
making it 20% different from
SLR.

To quote groundskeeper Willy,
Do you want to get sued?

SLR is still used by Mercedes,
Like the Mercedes Maclarean SLR.
