Hi all. My name is Rohan and i am new to the forum. I would like to share with you a bit of my history revolving around Toranas. After having owned them for the last 20 years this is the first time that i have joined the forum.

I have been involved with Toranas since 1987 when i bought my first G-Pak. Since then i have rebuilt 3 LH Toranas. The first was a 1975 4 door. It started life as my boses car until i persuaded him that he should sell it to me. The only down side was the colour: baby shit brown. After driving it for a year i decided that the colour had to go. So thats how the first rebuild started. We all know the story; quick paint job, clean up the interior a bit and Bob's your uncle right.... WRONG.. 3 years later "Copbait" finally emerged at its debut show. We done the show scene for the next 10 years until it was time to retire the old girl.

Next build was a 1976 LX 4 door. This car was bought complete with a 4 cyl opal. It was unregistered but for $100 we couldnt pass it up. We drove it home that day and 4 weeks later it was on the road. Painted black, pursuity's, 327 chev, turbo 350 and 9", 4:11 gears. I should also mention that this all happens to be the running gear out of "Copbait" seen as though it was no longer being used. This one was built for my wife. I had to keep her happy because i also had another project in the works. To this day it is still her car.

The most recent project is a 1977 LX. This one has been my pet project because it has allowed me to do all the things to it that i wanted to do to "Copbait" and some things that were just too hard. This time round i have tubbed it instead of flares, the engine bay is still seamless but not as full on as the other was. It is being built to keep the standard body lines and maintain a sense of the "sleeper" look. Running gear is still being decided. I have a whole top end ready to go; consisting of Alloy dart pro 1's, Dart manifold, competition cam 630 lift roller, lifters & rockers and a Race Demon carby. I would like to have it finished within the next 12 months but i tends to say that after every Toranafest. I am almost there. Its painted, engine half ready, most of the interior is there. Come to think of it there is not a lot stopping me apart from the cash.

Photos to follow.
Cheers Rohan

Wow - sweet as - I reckon that is the smoothest engine bay I have ever seen in a Torana.

Any clues how you get it that smooth? Do you just weld and grind back?

Welcome to the forums mate!!! I've still got that mag with the black beast in it too... this car was a huge inspiration to me many years ago when I was a real young tacker. One of my all-time fav Torana's, right up there alongside LITRE8 etc...

And just like Howard, you are another one who has caused me to spend lots of $$$$ on my own Torana's, hahahaha!!! Thanks... I think

Cheers.

Wow A friend and I were only talking about this car a couple of weeks ago and bang here it is now. I think my mates wife works with your nephew or something, and thats what started the conversation on Copbait.

This is a very inspirational thread! Cop bait is a definite piece of artwork! I'm basing my project on some of the very things you've done to it!

Stunning - absolutely stunning!

Hey mate, awsome cars! I love the old school style. Looks like your going all out on the new one, love that exhaust and the subframe connector job. What mill are you putting in the new one? I hope your going for the oldschool theme on this one too.

Cheers
Marty

Thanks Gents, some kind words here.

Nice to here that i inspired some Torana owners with there Machines :D

Yes, the new project is all old school, even down to the colour. It is painted, I just carnt find the disc at the moment, its gorn missing, Hope i find it..........

Will be running a 383 0r 400 chev running Dart Pro 1 cnc alloy heads, Dart Manifold, 630 roller comp cam, Race Demon. Ive got everything for the top end, just need to start on the bottom end. Turbo 350 with 4200 - 4500 stall & 4:30 9" diff. So yes all old School. :gun:

Interior in copbait changed alot from the magazine pics, as well as the engine bay. about 4 months work in that bay cutting, welding and smoothing. fire wall was cut out and a new one was fabed.

Cheers Rohan

Hey Rohan, I was just wondering what ever happened to Copbait? You mentioned it was retired, and all the running gear put into your wife's LX... so what happened to the car itself?

Also curious about your tyre sizes... the article mentions the Welds were 15 x 7's and 10's... what size & profile rubber were you running.... I love the stance, and it all just looks spot-on.

The car itself is parked in my driveway,Just as a roller thou. Going to take what i need off the old girl and sell the shell. Needs 2 doors or repair, driver pillar rust repair and a freshen up, it is sad to see it parked outside

Tyre sizes are 295/50/15 and 205/70/15 then i swapped the front ones for 15x6 with 195/75/15. Yes, was a good stance.
